Finally Had it with Line Cutting Ashimas

Yesterday while getting lunch at a neighborhood Home Plus an ashima cut right in front of me at the counter to order. She must of thought I couldn’t speak Korean and wouldn’t say anything. However, I know enough Korean to make my point and if any of you out there need to make a point to ashima about cutting in line tell them this,

Ashima, Chul-su-seyo! (Go to the back of the line)

After I told her this she looked at me in amazement when I then told her,

Chal Wonsungi aneyo. (Do I look like a monkey?)

By this time the other people in line were snickering and the employee at the counter then told her to go to the end of the line. She then finally moved to the end of the line. Apparently many Koreans believe that since they are older they have a right to cut in line. Not when I’m around. I have had enough of it. It is a very rude thing to do, no matter what country you are in. So hopefully this woman learned a lesson. Probably not. What else was funny today was when I was waiting to cross the street to get to Home Plus to go get lunch a taxi coming down the road suddenly stopped to see if I needed a ride. When he stopped suddenly the car behind him wasn’t paying attention and smashed into the rear of his vehicle and then a third vehicle smashed into that vehicle. So I had a three car pile up right in front of my camp. Nobody was seriously hurt but I made sure I told odashi I didn’t need a ride.

Funny how some people feel entitled to do as they please. We got the same thing back here in the States, but the justifications vary.

There’s no “about you” section, GI Korea. I know about the problems GIs have keeping a blog and not getting in Dutch with the Brass.

I don’t know what your reference points are. Mind telling me a little about yourself via e-mail? If you want to check me out before answering me, contact the Kimchee GI. A warning, I’m as rabid a Packer fan as he is, and we know each other’s home towns well since they are only 30 miles apart.
