whoa im late to the party

China first off has the weakest argument when it comes to history. They've already ticked off the Mongolians by claiming that Genghis Khan was of Han descent, then they denied the genocide of the Turks to the west of China, then they makes claims on Korean history. Lets not forget that china follows a one people policy. One of China's claims is that because it is a nation of multiple ethnicity, it has a right to call it Chinese history. Also they pull out the territorial card using modern day territories to justify their claim. Thats all fine and dandy WHEN THOSE PEOPLE ARE FULLY INTEGRATED IN YOUR SYSTEM AND DONT EXIST AS SEPERATE. I wont get into the possible political motives because i cant really prove them but only present theories. But when it comes to China making land claims, they're argument is like boiling water with a toaster... it just doesnt work. SOOO they deny the academic world all access to their historical sites, make their own conclusions, and hope they can get away with it. China once believed that they were the center of the world... of course thats been disproven but that hasnt stopped them from being a bunch of pompous arses. I think China's neighbors need to remind China why the Qin dynasty built that f-in wall in the first place. China was not as big back then as it is now and had powerful civilized neighbors outside their walls. China may be a powerful nation but it needs to respect its neighboring countries. After all central Northern china has a nice ethnic Mongolian population, the west has a good amount of ethnic Turks, and the northeast is populated with ethnic koreans. The bigger you are the harder you fall. Korea cannot and will not lose this battle. The echo of history never lies. Besides, Goguryeo---> Goryeo. GoJoseon, Goguryeo, Baekje, Silla, Balhae, Goryeo, Choseon, and onward belong to KOREA.

Yeah.

I kinda feel bad for the Koreans. Stuck between a mega powerhouse China (2nd largest economy in the world) and mega powerhouse Japan (3rd largest economy in the world).

Korea is like a little rock stuck between two economic and political powerhouses.

Basically, personally, That's basically how I see the Koreans - just a nation filled with "Look at me! Look at me!" folks. I mean, why can't they be like many other nations and just enjoy the fact that they're big in their own country?

Koreans act way too hard to try to overcompensate for their inferiority complex with respect to Megapower China/Japan.

Jion speaks the truth.
The guy hit the nail right on the head.
Koreans have this inferiority complex that just drives them to create horse poop about the spendid nature of its history. This is not only disgraceful, but also dangerous.
We have to realize that Korea becoming a major player in the world is a recent development and prior to the miracle on the Han river, Korea was but one of many insignificant lands.
Many of Korea's traditions and whatnot do not have that long of a history. Seoul is 600 years old, which is old, but very new compared to cities in the Middle East, Greece and China.
Tae Kwon Do is of course from Karate.
Much of RoK Marine culture is from the Imperial Japanese Special Naval Landing Force. You know we used to unofficially call one another with the IJN ranks? Also, I'm sure you're familiar with the fact that many of the Hanja based words were taken directly from Japanese (Naemu-shil is one I can think of off the top of my head... which is why it's been changed to Saenghwal-bang).
Korea has a lot to be proud of without fabricating history so why people downplay the efforts in the 60's, 70's and 80's while glorifying a past that was not glorious is somewhat beyond me. Actually I guess it's becuase the leftist government which was in charge for a while didn't want Park Jung-hee and his cadre to look good.

Post-colonial studies was all the rage in the 1990s in graduate school - and probably still is - and they would likely say that China is preparing the ground for when it fulfills world expectations and becomes the "lone super power" after toppling the US from that spot (somehow)/(or watching it collapse from that spot). Or put another way, they (the more clear thinking ones with a view on today's world - not the 17th Century) that China's force projection now is weak - even in East Asia vs the likes of Japan and South Korea - but they are preparing a historical foundation to go along with their military and economy one so that when they do have the power and conditions to project force like other great powers, they can acquire territory they do believe is their ancestral heritage...

You would think taking over history means taking actual territory it's not as if a country justifies a peaceful liberation a from feudal system. (how can liberate land that was yours from the start) . Ok maybe I'm being little sarcastic but China's claims of ownership to different territories is pathetic why wouldn't the same type of we ruled it at one point so its ours now and forever work for the UK we rule the Massachusetts Bay Colony and th United Sate was always our now and forever. Its Imperialism with Chinese characteristics... like "Socialism with Chinese characteristics" its a nice way of saying we are complete hypocrites and we don't give a f*ck if you don't like it. :???:

I am Korean but I am sick and tired of the propaganda about the greatness of the Korean nation and people with a 5,000 year history blah blah blah.
Most of it is a pack of lies.

It is true that Japan got a lot of its earliest non-Southeast Asian influences from Koreans but why is that so important? Why does it even matter? What relevence does that have to do with the relationship between Korea and Japan today?

I've been here for a while now and what I've learned is that Koreans just don't know how to think. It's a bunch of low self esteem and silly pride that further isolates us from the rest of the world. Some folks I've met said, "Well, yeah, so what? If we're better off by ourselves, then that's good!"
Not even the United States has managed isolationism with any sort of success. What makes anyone think Korea can go it alone? What will happen is history will repeat itself again. It will simply be caught between powers far greater than Korea, and then get crushed.
This time, there may be no United States to bail us out.

I would say, you are not good at this subject. It would be alright, most of people don't like to deal with complecated and boring subjects like history. Doing study about several thousand years old history, especially its not for your own country, it would be a heavy work for most of people.

Korea have whent through so many challenges internally and externally through out its history. However, Korea leaders have never gone to other nations and initiated a war and steal, kill, dominate, and control other nations. Therefore, no dirty, dark secret that would make Koreans to ashame of their history.

Let's talk about China: How China became the size as now and how 59 different ethnic groups ended up living in a country? Under an evil expantionistic power, an innocent and week nations were stolen by stong and stripped all of them away including their national identity. Thank about it. . .
