Did you get a bigger than normal paycheck this week? If you did don’t spend it:
Eighth U.S. Army officials have a message for 713 Korea-based soldiers who discovered extra money in their mid-month paychecks Tuesday: Don’t spend it!
The bigger-than-normal paychecks are the result of a system error in the Automatic Rent Collection Program.
The glitch meant that the soldiers’ Overseas Housing Allowance wasn’t automatically deducted and paid to off-base landlords for the first half of their June rent.
And officials warn the same thing is going to happen with the end-of-the-month May paychecks.
The soldiers will be required to use both overpayments to pay their June rent, officials said.

This isn't related to the post:
One of my students showed up to class with a "Beef Pot Roast w/vegetables in Gravy" MRE. Are these available in stores in Korea?

SunSaengNim,
Kevlar vests, unissued Gortex, M-16 mags and an occasional Sebre radio are "available" in certain stores in Korea.
An MRE is certainly within the realm of possibilities.
I say, pull out the heater, add water and enjoy dinner on the American taxpayer and some of those surplus tax dollars.
J!

Yes MREs can be found quite openly on the black market. Back in the day soldiers use to give their MREs to ajummas that would cook bulgogi rice for them or even ramen while out in the field. A few years back the Army made that illegal but Koreans still have ways of getting the MREs. I had an ajumma tell me that the MREs are highly sought after by Korean fishermen who spend many days at sea and really like how the MREs last a long time and taste good.

Just spend the money – it's magic after all. Thats how you get money after all, right? What a stupid comment to make -don't spend the money- Let me get this right. I make 2,500 a month and have made 2,500 a month for 2 years. All of the sudden I get a paycheck for 5,000 – I don't ask any questions? What the hell, is this magic? I am promoted from sergeant to general in one month? Sure – that makes perfect sense. Spend the money you earned it.
In the late 80's I use to give a case of MREs to the person who steam cleaned my HMMWV so I could get it through customs and back to the states.
