  I have seen CSM’s get in considerably bigger trouble.

  What’s kind of wholesome about this CM is that it involved a reservist, as reservists seem to have a certain degree of invulnerability to UCMJ, even while on active duty. The facts of the case must be pretty damned big for the command to finally take some action.

  History is pretty replete with examples of CSM’s stepping into major shit. Start with the very first guy to occupy the newly created post of SMA (convicted of running the Army-wide NCO club slot machine skimming scam from the 1950’s-70’s) and move forward to a more recent SMA, Gene McKinney and his conviction for all sorts of sexual mischief (1997).

  My personal experience was with CSM Gleason at 1/1SFG on Okinawa back in the 80’s: sex, drugs, rock&roll, gunrunning in both Thailand and Japan, and murder-for-hire, all in our beloved BN CSM. We actually did idolize the guy, as he was all for the troops, and going out and killing commies.

  To paraphrase GEN Stilwell’s comments on making 2-star while at FT Ord: “The only thing is…The higher up the coconut tree a monkey climbs, the more you see of his ass”.
