General Ulchi Mundok?

I think that might be Kim Yu-shin, who united the kingdoms during the Silla era.

I'm guessing the photo was taken in Gyeongju?

Not Ulchi Mundok or Kim Yu-shin. The statue is not in Gyeongju or even Seoul for that matter.

No it is not Yi Sun-shin. To echo kingkitty's comment, this guy did lose his final battle.

He is General Gae Bek from Bek Jae. He was killed by Kim Yu Shin from Shilla. According to history, General Gae Bek killed all of his family prior to him losing his battle with Kim Yu Shin. In that way his family would not become slaves if he lost.

kcbill06,
I think you are right. He was the final BaekJae General who was defending King Uija only with 5000 elite soldiers (Kyul SaDae) against Silla's grand Army which was lead by General Kim YuShin. These 5000 were like the Spartan 300. They all determined to die to defend their country against Silla and Tang. Silla won this battle by using Teen-aged HwaRang Cadet who repeatly went over to fight the General GaeBeak. Once this HwaRang was killed, the Silla soldiers got motivated to destroy BeakJae Army.
The location of the statue might be at Kwangju or Kunsan.

Yes, kcbill06 got it. The statue is the most prominent statue in the city of Buyeo which was the last Baekje capitol at the time of the fall of Baekje to the combined Shilla and Tang Armies.
