She Still Can’t Get No Satisfaction

» by in: USFK

The Stars & Stripes have given an update today on the case of the pissed off Colonel’s wife:

The family’s attorneys law firm failed to show up at a July 22 court session in front of Judge Dang U-jeung just days after the Gerke family left the peninsula.

Lee Won-gyun, chief of the firm representing the Gerkes, said a scheduling mix-up was the reason no one from his firm appeared in court. The judge set the next session for Sept. 4.

Lee said the family would have settled for the $4,000 — but that the business center decided not to cooperate.

Business center spokesman Jimmy Park said last week that the business wasn’t sure if they would settle because the last time he saw Catherine Gerke, she was sprawled out on the floor of the center screaming that “she wanted $20,000 or $30,000.”

During the July court appearance, Park blasted the woman’s actions to the judge, who ordered Park to put his complaints in writing to the court.

Park said the business center is considering countersuing the family for Catherine’s behavior, which he believes made customers uncomfortable about using the business center.

“She’s just doing ridiculous things to hurt us every way she can,” Park said.

Where have I seen people rolling on the ground, crying, and protesting before?  It seems like Mrs. Gerke has spent to much time in Korea. Joking aside there has to be more to this story because Mrs. Gerke has vowed to fight on against the travel company for the $12,000 bucks she says she is owed even though she spent only $5,527 for the upgraded ticket.  Ridiculous case, but hey it makes great blogging material. :)

Don't know the lady, but maybe she is of "Foreign Nationality".

Her first name is Catherine so I doubt she is of "foreign nationality" but who knows.

She sounds like a waste of skin. I would feel sorry for the husband, BUT he did pick her over others to hitch his wagon too. Assuming she wasn't picked out by his Mommy and Daddy.

Is she a spoiled brat from rich family? Feel sorry for her children if they have any.

Did she even do it is what I keep asking myself, but everyone else is 100% sure she did. As the judge said, "put it in writing Mr. Park." Pretty easy to do if there were any witnesses. I seem to recall a Hagwon owner ordered to pay, who how shall we say it,…er lied and didn't pay a teacher, who is to say Mr. Park didn't do a pre-emptive non-payment.

There is some major disconnect going on with this case because her lawyer says Mrs. Gerkes wants to settle for $4000 bucks but the business owner doesn't want to settle until the court makes it official while Mrs. Gerkes is vowing to fight on for $12,000 bucks. Definitely more to this story.

I was there – the poor woman was not on the ground yelling $20,000 or $30,000 – she was holing onto an envelope that had her address that the manager had told her to bring a few days earlier since she was moving the next week – she was crying in pain from severe back spasms – she was taken by ambulance – Mr. Jimmy was laughing as she was boarded into the amubulance – and our husbands come over here to protect Koreans? shame on you Mr. Jimmmy – lying and laughing while Americans help your country

I think that explains a lot then with this case if the travel agent was laughing at her because that is what is probably motivating the lawsuit and the effort to shut the travel agent down and not simply trying to be reimbursed.

It seems Park is saying ridiculous things to try and discredit the Gerkes, and making unsubstantiated claims, makes him look foolish.

The judge has ruled in the Gerkes' favor. It is far less that the amount due to the Gerkes for the overcharge mistake made by the Travel Agency.

I am anxious to know what the court costs are, and why the amount should be split. The travel agency had a breach of contract with the Gerkes. That is the case (not any alleged behavior by Catherine).

Is this the best kind of legal representation our service men and women receive overseas?

    God help them!
