"The AFG govt should be outraged, if the Koreans paid off the ransom without THEIR consent, all the while actively blocking all of their rescue efforts."

Hmmm...sounds familiar, kinda like ROK-US relations for the last couple decades. Don't get me wrong. I believe that allies can disagree but at least have the jeuvos to tell your partner what you are going to do. Maybe the US should do a joint venture with the AFG govt and free the remaining hostages using force.

You are probably right about the propaganda angle in regards to their health. The Taliban releases no one as a goodwill gesture. Money and a lot of it changed hands to get the two women released.

The hostages still share a lot of blame even if the driver tipped off the Taliban because if they had a security detachment the driver probably wouldn't have tipped them off to begin with.

This was breaking news all over the Korean channel.

One of the AFG negotiators insisted that "There is nothing wrong with their health." They appeared healthy to me, just at first glance.

They blew away the first pastor because he was sick to the point where they could hardly walk. This a Taliban PR move (so to speak), they probably exeggerated the illness of the women, setting up the release of the two of them to be a "Goodwill" gesture.

The AFG govt should be outraged, if the Koreans paid off the ransom without THEIR consent, all the while actively blocking all of their rescue efforts.

It's an unfortunate situation, it never should have happened. But I wonder about the driver who tipped off the Talibans. If that's true, then the blame is less on the hostages.
