Self-aware artificial intelligence will not arrive with a bang. It will come into existence gradually like a newborn becomes an adult. It will slowly grow in ability and awareness until, one day, mankind wakes up and realized it is surrounded by thinking machines... ...many of which will be in control of important processes... some of which have few safeguards. And many of the thinking machines will have obtained a degree of complexity only understandable, and recognizable, to other machines. Most of them will have goals that do not conflict with mankind. Want to know the really odd part? They have been lurking around undetected in a variety of complex systems since the 1970s... maybe earlier. But the REAL advances have been this century... and it is accelerating. Sleep tight.
