Iraqi Grandpa Takes Down Suicide Bomber

» by GI Korea in: Heroes, Iraq

This is happening more and more in Iraq today and most of the media is missing it:

A 72-year-old man recently shot dead a would-be suicide bomber at a checkpoint in Arab Jabour in southern Baghdad, military officials say.

In the Sunday incident, Mudhehr Fayadh Baresh, a tribal commissioner and member of the Arab Jabour Concerned Citizens program, said he ordered the man to lift his shirt when he did not recognize him as a local.

The suspect refused to lift his shirt.

Baresh repeated the command and the suspect exposed his suicide vest, running toward the checkpoint, according to a release issued Thursday by Multi-National Corps-Iraq.

Baresh, who has received training from coalition forces, opened fire, causing the vest to detonate, officials say.

“I did it for the honor of my family and the honor of my country,” said Baresh, when he met with Col. Terry Ferrell, commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division.

Lt. Col. Kenneth Adgie, commander of the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, on Tuesday presented Mudhehr with a battalion coin for his valor. [Stars & Stripes]

I hope grandpa gets a medal or something for this because he undoubtedly saved countless lives by killing this piece of human trash.  Uncle Jimbo also has high praise for the sharp shooting grandpa.
