North Korea Moving Closer to Becoming Chinese Autonomous Area

The longer South Korea continues to put off unification the more likely North Korea will end up becoming just another Chinese autonomous area and here is more proof of that:

In recent years, China has been sweeping up major North Korean mining rights. China has so far acquired 50-year rights to Musan Iron Mine, North Korea’s largest, located in Hamgyong Province, 25-year rights to Hyesan Youth Copper Mine in Yanggang Province and 50-year rights to Yongdeung Coal Mine in North Pyongan Province. China and North Korea have signed pacts to co-develop offshore oil deposits in the Yellow Sea, but specific details have yet to be revealed.

China has also secured the rights to operate two piers in North Korea’s Najin port for 50 years after expanding them and constructing new facilities there. China has secured highway usage rights to transport Chinese exports from the Tumen River to Najin Port. China has also signed a deal to build two hydroelectric power plants along the Yalu River and use the electricity, while securing fishing rights in the sea off the coast of Wonsan. Stories of North Korea becoming one of China’s four northeastern provinces have not come about for no reason. [Chosun Ilbo]

Make sure to read the whole thing, but does anyone think the South Korean government will ever do anything to stop the exploiting of natural resources from North Korea by China when they have more important things to do like accuse the United States of war crimes during a war the happened over 50 years that saved the entire peninsula from becoming a Chinese autonomous prefecture in the first place.

It would appear China has the upper hand, as any move by the South Koreans would require exceptions to the armistace signed by the UN. I think South Korea should be prepared to see Chinese military as well as modern Chinese aircraft on the scene in the near future. In a mutual security pact with China. South Korea will have to make an important decision as to where the future lies . Joining with the Chinese or maintaining thier relationship with the US. History tells me they will try to play middle of the road. Eventually the South will lose. The US should leave now, while it is politically feasable and will gain good will from the world.

There is still time to salvage a single Korean nation on the peninsula but the idiotic Sunshine Policy and Kim Jong-il are making it more and more likely that a post-Kim North Korea will end up being a Chinese autonomous prefecture.

When it happens who do you think the people in South Korea will blame? I’m willing to bet it won’t be themselves even though that is where all the blame lies.
