Killer of ROK Marine Captured

The person suspected of attacking two ROK Marines and killing one them and then stealing their weapons has been caught in downtown Seoul.  A letter he wrote was recovered in Busan and the police were able to detect fingerprints on the letter and indentify the man who wrote it.  The police contacted a friend of the suspect to set up a meeting with him.  The meeting was to happen in Jongno in downtown Seoul where he was ultimately captured near a movie theatre.  Here is a video from Naver that shows the police with the suspect shortly after his capture:

The weapons he stole were also recovered near a gas station in Jangseon in Jeollanam-do a few hours before the arrest using information found in the letter.  As it turns out the suspect in custody was not a former Marine and was in fact an interior decorator.  His motivation for committing the crime and stealing the weapons has not been disclosed yet.  I’m still thinking he may be some crazy leftist like the one that attacked Park Geun-hye last year.

A whole lot more over at Marmot and Nomad.

A 50-year old drunk (as in the Park Geun-Hye stabbing) is a far cry from this guy. It’s going to be interesting to see who he is, who he worked with, and what his plan was. The most curious fact is that he felt compelled to steal these particular weapons.

Obviously this guy is much worse than in the Park Geun-hye case, but the only other thing I can think of that could explain what he did is if he got dumped by his girlfriend or wife and went nuts.

The Roh administration would never do anything like waterboarding. Instead, they’re going to play hardball and give him $50 million in cash and see whether that will make him talk.

Unfortunately, we will all have to listen the BS excuses and conditions that “forced” this piece of excrement to run down two fellow human beings and then stab them.

I found the article about him standing trial in a court martial interesting —- that in the case of even a civilian committing a serious crime against an ROK soldier while on guard duty, the suspect is handled by Korean military justice….

And I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear very little about this case once he is handed over to the military.

I remember a big case back in about 1998 where a Korean soldier robbed a bank using a rifle and some concussion grenades taken off base where he even wounded some people.

It was huge news, because that type of gun crime is so rare, and they did not know he was a soldier at the time. The fact he got away with it for about a week or so kept it a hot story, but once he was handed over to the military after they finally did catch him, you never heard a word about it again…..at least not in the English sections of the Korean press….
