Ancient Gaya Tomb Discovered

This is a pretty cool discovery:

Archaeologists have dug up a 15-hundred-year-old skull with an earring from an ancient tomb in South Gyeongsang Province.

The Gaya National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage said Thursday that the skull had an
earring two centimeters in diameter. The skull was found in one of ten newly found tombs of the Gaya Kingdom.

The institute said that while most of the relics had been stolen by grave robbers, some ornaments and artifacts including pieces of a golden crown and a golden ring were found. Institute officials said that such items suggest it was a royal tomb.  [KBS]

Gaya was a very small kingdom located in south central Korea that was eventually absorbed by surrounding kingdoms.  However, many artifacts from this kingdom have been discovered and many of them are on display over at the National Museum near Yongsan Garrison.

Actually, especially in light of the post just before this one, if you wanted to stir the pot, you could mention that some archeologists have suggested the Kaya was a Japanese kingdom set up in Korea from which Japanese influence entered Korean society early on……I believe that is how it went…

I have a habit of avoiding periods of history before sizable collections of print material or the written word, because archeology seems too influenced by the eye of the beholder, but I do seem to remember that there was one school of thought on Korean pre-history that said Kaya was Japanese….

I thought Kaya was founded by Indian/Thai Princess who escaped her homeland to come to Korean Peninsula by boat. She brought over her country’s technology on farming and music.

Japanese claim Kaya as one of their rightful states. They call Kaya, “Mimana” and they base their claims on their book “Nihonshiki”. They also claim Paekchae as their colony as well, calling it “Kudahara”.
The funny thing is, the Chinese claim Koguryo and Paekchae as their rightful provinces of China, with Silla sure to follow soon. One may think that the Chinese and the Japanese will have to fight it out to decide who gets what. But they won’t.

China and Japan have already secretly reached an agreement with each other. China will support Japan in the UN Security application, and will support Japan in the Tokdo/Takeshima dispute. Japan in return will support China’s North East Asian history revision project which claims Koguryo and Paekchae as Chinese teritory, paving the way for China to take over North Korea after its fall.

GI, you are funny. If you are not really an anti-korean than you should be more careful with the thing you write. Actually It gives the impression that you “hate” Koreans.
