Well if this guy is treated in the usual way corrupt Korean businessmen are in Korean courts, he won’t be seeing little if any jail time:
A prosecutor asked Friday for a prison term and fine for the South Korean businessman accused of bribing AAFES officials so Internet company SSRT could hold a lucrative contract with the U.S. military on the peninsula.
In a five-minute session in Suwon District Court on Friday morning, prosecutor Jang Hye-young recommended SSRT executive Jeong Gi-hwan be sentenced to 18 months in prison and fined 100 million won (about $109,000). SSRT is also known as Samsung Rental Corp. Ltd.
Jeong is accused of paying tens of thousands of dollars in bribes to former Army and Air Force Exchange Service officials Clifton W. Choy and H. Lee Holloway.
Appearing before judge Kim Mi-ri, Jeong’s lawyer, Jang Ho-jin, said his client feels remorseful, has suffered immeasurable financial damage, and is eager to recover.
Jang asked the judge to spare Jeong a jail sentence and instead fine him.
Jeong, wearing a charcoal pinstriped suit, white shirt and blue polka-dot tie, then stood and spoke for about 20 seconds, saying he’d perhaps been overzealous in his eagerness to build SSRT into a successful company. [Stars & Stripes]
If he does go to jail does anyone want to make any bets how long it is before he is wearing a gown and hospitalized for stress and sent home?
The SSRT corruption scandal is not like the blackmarketing or fraud with USFK building contracts we have seen in the past because of its direct targeting of soldiers and airmen to rip off. It is truly disgusting and hopefully every American and Korean involved in this goes to jail.Â

I can sympathize with ripped off service personnel. My broadband service used to $30 a month until our local city council voted to approve a new provider, who charges $45 for the same service. Can someone explain to me why we can choose our telephone service provider but not our internet service provider in many US locales?
