This story is definitely a cause for concern:
An American soldier has died in South Korea after contracting what health officials presume was meningitis, the U.S. military said Sunday.
Army Pvt. Jason L. Williams, 19, from Colorado died Saturday at a U.S. military hospital in Seoul, the 2nd Infantry Division said in a statement.
Williams "displayed symptoms of someone that might have suffered from meningitis," the statement said.
Medical officials were conducting tests, including an autopsy, to determine the exact cause of death, the military said.
Soldiers who came into close contact with Williams were being given antibiotics as a precautionary measure, the military said. None of them have shown symptoms of meningitis, it said. [AP]
It is sad to see a soldier die in this way and hopefully no other soldiers were infected. It will be interesting to see how the investigation determines how the soldier contracted the disease because this is the first time I can remember a soldier coming down with something like this in USFK.

It possible that our soldiers are now just coming down with this previously unprecedent health risk to a USFK serving member.
But it is more than likely that we have already innoculated our brave men and women to be prepared for various diseases in Foreign lands like Korea. The only person we Americans want dead is the Chairman of the D.P.R.K.

This has been a problem in schools here in Georgia with some scares this year and last.

Meningitis was a problem in 1964, or so they told us. We NEVER ate food in TDC. We drank OB beer. Believe me, we drank plenty of OB beer. OB was the only beer they sold, and bars (in TDC) did not serve mixed drinks. If I remember right, we were ordered to avoid all food. I do remember eating popcorn one time, but that's all. Oh yeah, we also ate peanuts in the shells.
