US Airman Cleared of Rape Charge

Ask yourself would this story have ever been published if it didn’t involve a USFK servicemember?

A U.S. service member stationed in South Korea has been cleared of suspicions that he sexually assaulted a South Korean female, police said Thursday.
Earlier in the day, U.S. and South Korean officials said that the private first class (PFC), whose name was not disclosed, allegedly raped a 19-year-old female at a Seoul hotel on Wednesday after meeting her through an Internet site.

The airman from the U.S. Air Force 51st Fighter Wing based in Osan, some 60 kilometers south of Seoul, was booked on suspicion of assault and handed over to the U.S. military authorities.  [Yonhap]

I wonder if this guy was fooling around with the ex-girlfriend of this Australian English teacher?

I can't help but think that if this had happened on-post and the girl had been a female servicemember, the guy would have been nailed for sure.

At least he wasn't automatically charged (and then convicted)…

not sure what this chic was thinking first off once you make it to a hotel that shows a high level of consent

 Exactly…I remember either Mcnut or Hardyandtiny once commented on this blog maybe that the reason they like Korean chicks is that they know when they go to the hotel what comes next!

C'mon GI, get with the program, bro. Change headline to read: "US Airman…". Go find a joint duty job and get a little purple. I love what you're doing, but this is getting distracting.

Disregard; I'm an idiot. Clearly, Yonhap, in addition to yours truly, hasn't a clue. I look forward to clarification from the blotter, when able.

Yet, the purple comment stands ;)

[...] Stars & Stripes has a must read update on the false rape allegation brought against an Osan AB airman.  Could you imagine how this would have played out in the media [...]

    Dave,

Good catch I have fixed the title. I would happily accept orders to Osan Airbase to get a little purple in a heartbeat.

However, every time it is time for me to PCS somewhere the only option I have for Korea is 2ID. There are very few AF guys in 2ID and the hand full up there are more green than blue anyway.

"…private first class (PFC)…" – WTF?! Since when did Air Force Airmen start calling themselves Army Privates? Like everything in this country, nice attention to detail Yonhap!

GI, what KimchiKills said is exactly why I withdrew my comments. Now, in the big scheme of things, it doesn't matter. But for the service member that has his butt in a sling, I hope some lessons were learned.

I'm not sure what your rank and MOS are, but there are plenty of joint or joint-like billets to get you other-service tastes (so to speak). If you are a combat arms or MI kind of guy, I'm sure there's billets at the 3d BCD among other small units at Osan.

I agree ref the 604 ASOS JTACs/TACP guys up in Area 1. They are pretty much Army bubbas. Even wearing the ACU vice the ABU.

    Cheers,

    Dave, Retired USAF
