Another month and more court martial results for everyone to review. The highlights from the court martial results this month is the Major Mark Seldes case, yet another DUI which makes 13 DUIs in 11 months, the Staff Sergeant who lost his career over $371 bucks, and two more marijuana distribution convictions. At least these two drug distributors received a bad conduct discharge unlike other people caught with drugs.
However, there is definitely what appears to be an increase in drug arrests in USFK. It is hard to say why because it could just be better enforcement against a problem that has always been there. Having long term drug stats which I do not have access to, to determine if drug abuse in USFK is on the rise or not would be interesting to see. As I have shown with GI crime statistics, often times the perception is not reality.
Personally I’m more concerned about these DUIs then I am the marijuana abuse. A soldier smoking dope isn’t going to kill someone unlike these knuckleheads that keep driving drunk. All it takes is one idiot to drive drunk and kill a Korean civilian and everyone could be locked down and having their own “Period of Reflection” in Korea even though the vast majority of servicemembers in Korea are not even allowed to drive.
