UPDATE: I have more up to date posting for everyone with the latest information on this murder here.

It is ironic that in the same week the Korean media announces that Koreans compose the second highest population of working holiday visas in Australia two Koreans are attacked in Sydney:
Superintendent Mark Murdoch said there was no evidence to suggest the two students instigated the attack by two teenagers suspected of belonging to an Asian crime gang.
The stabbing occurred after an argument between the students and a group of men about 1am (AEDT) today at the World Square Shopping Centre, Supt Murdoch said.
A 19-year-old South Korean national died a short time later in hospital and his friend, a Korean man aged in his early 20s, was today critically ill with multiple stab wounds to his upper body, he said. [AAP]
Two suspects have been jailed in the case, but it is unfortunate that someone so young loses his life in a senseless killing.

Most of the Korean immigrant community in Australia lives in Sydney. However, when it comes to Asian gangs, it’s predominantly the Vietnamese that comprise the majority.

The murdered foreign exchange student was the younger brother of actor Lee Dong Gun (http://news.naver.com/main/read.nhn?mode=L…;aid=0001961371). Lee’s brother was in Australia studying and met his unprovoked fate. The people who killed him and who seriously injured another Korean were members of the Chinese immigrant gang in Australia.

There have been a lot of racial attacks against Koreans and Asians in New Zealand and Australia.

Tom, thanks I will have posting up shortly after I get done reading up on it. However I doubt it was a racial attack since it was suspected that a Asian gang killed them.

[...] victim of the stabbing death of a Korean man in Sydney has now been identified as the brother of Korean actor Lee [...]

How cruel is that?

I am also a Korean student studying in Melbourne, Australia.
We, Koreans are in a great sorrow right now about this news. Lee dong gun’s younger bro was only 20 and was killed by this Chinese man without any reason.
What is that? No reason for killing one’s valuable life?
What is wrong with him!!!!!!!!!!
I am so pissed off ….
And I am sorry for Lee dong gun’s family…..(sobbing)

Oh, the Chinese stabber killed him because he looked at him, but I don’t think he was actually looked at him.
He was on the way out of the shopping mall, inevitably, if your walking towards…then you should see ahead.
And, the Chinese fk stabber , I guess thought that he was looking at him..yeah…

well, this news was definetly shocking, but i gotta say, the koreans in sydney, as a majourity has feud with chinese themselves. the koreans in sydney, without any ofence, are very provocative. i can understand why a glance could get them killed, u simply just dont mess with yonton, bigcircle, or sinwah in this region. u may not know, buh this incidence is a reflection of racial feud, chinese, on most majourity in sydhey hates the koreans. the koreans in this region simply…too priding themselves, often bash and bully chinese too. if u are not a korean, go try to live in places such as chatswood, epping, eastwood, i would be most certain u’ll hate them in less then 6 month, i aint been subjective, im just trying to give a reflection to the reason of how this incidence was ignited. may them RIP also it is a reminder, that u should rest ur attitude on the street such as george street region.

Yes, well sad to say, even though another asian killed the guy, it might still be a “racial” attack, if immigrants from two countries consider themselves to be different races. Maybe “hate crime” is more appropriate. Amazing how a story like this brings out things you never knew, I certainly never knew CHinese and Koeans had such bad tensions running in the city.
The vast majority of all people from all cultures are just peaceful people, so it’s not fair to say “It’s the Koreans” or “It’s the Vietnamese” but I must say, even I, in the city as a youngster, had a few dicey moments where I made the mistake of simply looking at someone. Talk about easily provoked, the violent response is totally disproportionate to the “crime” of just glancing at someone.

They were arguing about something. At this point we can only speculate. I myself think the Korea was being arrogant and “eyeballing” a chinese kid while telling that kid that Jian Dao (kando in Korea) is Korean land.
I think that it may have been self defence. Korean gather in packs, but usually run when confronted. I am willing to bet that this Korean, who may have felt that he was rich and famous, due to his brother, felt he was invincible. When Koreans are together, you can usually expect them to have belly full of soju and a head full of nationalism/jingoism.
.
He just eyeballed the wrong guy at the wrong place. I hope other Koreans don’t make the same mistake. My heart goes out to his family, and the family of the poor chinese kid, that got mixed up in all this.

ThereYouHaveIt-
i like ur spectaculation on this incidence, u seemed to draw a nice blance on the justification of this raging dispute, i agree on all aspects of the points u mentioned above.
anyway, its a ironic truth. that the culture in sydney seemed to encourage people to divided up nationality wise rather thn the race itself, the political tension which played out miles away between korea and china also played a role in manipulating the mind set of us, the overseas student, not to mention the haterd. it seemed the very element of “nationism” can raise the individuals to take revenge on others basing on national disputes, it is a ironic truth, buh many got mixed up between individual and nation, like all nationlist people, it does feel better to take solution into ur own hands.
So, im convinced that this stabbing incidence, is more thn just a “simple glance” which the media projected it.
it is a emotional conflict inginitted by a built up of disputes national and individual wise. something tht aussies wont understand.
In this incidence, all parties are wrong in aspects, vital racial recognition between asians were dismissed, and it just raised many unforseem issues, which many overseas should be made aware in the future to come.

Two Korean kids were minding their own business walking, then the crazy chinese delibrately bumped in to start something. The Korean kid responded with “Why don’t you watch where you are going?” in frustration. Then the chinese gangs began to stabbed the Korean to death.
Looks like a typical portrayal of chinese inferior complexity and their paranoia… nothing more and nothing less.
Here is a good link of the way chinese handle their own kind in their home land:

http://www.boxun.com/hero/picshock/2_1.shtml
Two things about chinese public execution practice:
1) The chinese gov believes that it is a great method to put fear in chinese citizens to control crime… and
2)the chinese people simply LOVES watching it…

You are lying. There strong karma in this world, and there is always justice in the end, even at the end of a knife. The Koreans should behave overseas, and not pick fights.
” Looks like a typical portrayal of chinese inferior complexity and their paranoia… nothing more and nothing less”
Looks like anti-Chinese racism. Nothing more and nothing less.

GOGO Shattered!
agree with you
1:25 am on March 28th, 2008 18
if you koreans havnt relized, your so called Nationalism had caused you all too up yourselves, and this will definetly make you unpopular, even hated by all asian nations in the future to come. the thing is, respect comes from ur recognition to each other, and it seemed, the so called korean nationlism pride is nothing less than a excuse to look low on people inferrior to your race. disgusting, isnt it?
1:35 am on March 28th, 2008 19
if it was the chinese who got stabbed, wat will you koreans say about this huh? u will all prob just make up a pleasent sounding justifications to it all, wont you? its a sadistic thing, that your nationlism culture can blind the whole nation. was my comment offensive? of course, you koreans will find it offensive because im judging the incidence on a fair perspective rather thn basing the judgement on how “KOREANS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT” footing.
1:37 am on March 28th, 2008 20
you koreans should learn from now wat “global village” really means, afterall there are 150+ countries on this planet, and you koreans are only a tiny tiny dot on this map.
1:56 am on March 29th, 2008 21
I guess the disrespectful comments were made by Chinese people….get over yourselves. The Chinese guys are the murders of an innocent man. You guys are as bad as the guys who commited this terrible crime.
12:25 pm on March 29th, 2008 22
Actually most of the disresptful comments are made by Korean. Get your facts straight el
1:21 am on March 30th, 2008 23
…? why do you all bother arguing about whether koreans are too proud and whether chinese are overreacting should all be seen as bad as these murderers??
the point here is, its sh!t that someone innocent died in such a abrupt way
stop trying to act like your view on each other’s races is the right one and show more sympathy for the incident? maybe??
5:30 am on March 30th, 2008 24
“the point here is that someone innocent died in such a abrupt way”
Well, “innocent” I am not sure about that. Think about his arguing or “eyeballing” or arogance… heck who knows.. Koreans are people too (koreaphiles belive that their gods walk on water). The fact it that this poor kid,who may have acted in self defence is being railroaded. I want justice, but not “korean style” justice where anybody who isnt korean is guilty by nationality.

8:09 pm on March 31st, 2008 26
You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.
This is a story about a young Korean who lost his life early before he had a chance to live a full life unlike yourselves.
Instead of being stupid selfish racist bastards think about the young man who died on that day and feel some pity. How would you like to LOSE a loved one like your mother, father or even worse your very own.
But ofcourse you guys are more concerned about your pride and your selfish thoughts on how other people see you.
It is the type of racist squabbling that occurs on this forum that devalues society in this civilised world.
IT DOESNT MATTER WHICH NATIONALITY YOU ARE WE ARE ALL THE SAME AND HAVE GOOD AND BAD QUALITIES WE ARE ALL HUMAN.
think on it

emboti, thanks!
Comments like this:
“Looks like a typical portrayal of chinese inferior complexity and their paranoia”
made by thebeast, and other Korean VANKers serve no purpose. Hating Chinese, won’t bring back that Korean.
A lot of people are pointing out that the Korean wasn’t 100% innocent, so I just hope other Koreans don’t try and fight Chinese, because they will most likely lose too.
2:51 am on July 29th, 2008 28
Why don’t we all just get along. If it’s impossible for all humankind to get along, why don’t we asians unite and stop imitating other culture’s gangster culture? We’re not italians, blacks, or mexicans. We have a different culture.
We’re all brothers, japanese, koreans, chinese, vietnamese, malaysians, filipinos, indonesians, we all have similarities. We should unite, especially when we’re in another continent.
3:13 am on July 29th, 2008 29
We should all get along, but Koreans need to behave overseas. You can hardly blame somebody for punishing korean bad behavior.
This is justice!!
