North Korea Vows “Great Lesson” for South

The lack of reaction from South Korea over the North’s rhetoric this week is causing them to increase the threats:

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) will not “remain an onlooker” following South Korea’s provocative actions on its West Sea (Yellow Sea) border, a DPRK Navy Command spokesman said Friday.

South Korea has dramatically increased troop deployment and has been holding frequent military rehearsals in the region, leading to a volatile situation, the spokesman was quoted as saying by the DPRK’s official news agency KCNA.

If the South continued its provocative actions, it would receive a great lesson from the North, he added.  [People's Daily]

In addition North Korea has increased military maneuvers and aircraft flights along the DMZ in an attempt to increase tensions on the peninsula.  However, none of this is working, for example look at the South Korean government’s response to a North Korean threat to turn the country into ashes:

South Korea remained silent Monday to North Korea’s provocative threats to turn everything in the country into ashes while officials at the Defense Ministry said they simply see no need to respond to what they called “unfortunate” rhetoric.

The Defense Ministry was earlier expected to issue a statement, but ministry officials said they were still weighing their options.

“It truly is unfortunate for North Korea to make such threats, but the government sees no need to be alarmed and make an immediate response,” a ministry official said, asking not to be identified.  [Yonhap]

You have to appreciate the cool and calm approach to North Korean belligerence for once from the South Korean government.

I wish NK would just follow through, just once. SK backs down every time and NK never even does anything. Talk about no balls.

Something tells me this “great lesson” is nothing more than belly aching and bitching over not getting their way anymore.
