That is why the girl did not want to go through the embarassment of a Japanese trial because the police knew she was a prostitute as well. However the prosecution for the court martial probably could not prove he had sex with the girl without her testifying or any other evidence thus the reason for the sexual abuse conviction for touching her in a sexual way. If this girl was a prostitute then basically this guy got four years in jail, a dishonarable discharge which means if he was close to retirement is a huge loss, and then may have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life for basically a prostitution deal gone bad. When you look at it that way this is actually a pretty stiff sentence. Do I feel sorry for him? No way, this guy is a sleaze ball. Maybe he didn't know the girl with 14 but still he had to know she was pretty darn young. For 38 year old guy to go and mess around with a young teenager even if she was a prostitute is just asking for trouble and he got it.
