The Marine that was alleged to have raped a 14 year old Japanese girl and then had Japanese charges dropped against him, was cleared of rape once again in his military court martial but was convicted on a lesser charge:
But the court on southern Okinawa island - home to more than half of the 40,000 US troops based in Japan - cleared Staff Sergeant Tyrone Hadnott, 38, of rape and other charges including kidnapping through luring.
Hadnott, who pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of sexual abuse, had faced a maximum of 15 years in prison. The court sentenced him to 36 months in confinement, with the last 12 months suspended.
He also was dishonourably discharged from the US military. [AFP]
Here is what Hadnott had to say at the conclusion of the court martial:
Hadnott admitted he had touched the victim’s underwear but insisted he had not raped her.
“I touched her in a sexual manner over clothing. I was gratifying my sexual desire, sir,” he said, shaking his head after the judge asked why he did it.
”(There is) no excuse for my action and no way to express how sorry I am,” he said.
I would have to assume that he did not rape her because if he did a rape kit would have been done on the victim that would easily show she was raped. The fact that such evidence was never presented shows the rape probably in fact did not happen.
This is playing out as I suspected it would, no rape happened but Hadnott would get smashed with the UCMJ for inappropriately touching the girl. I have received some emails explaining what happened with this case, but I’m interested to hear what other people think about what really happened as well.

Isn’t it obvious what happened here? The man was weak and fell victim to the onslaught of schoolgirl porn that’s widely available in Japan. The Japanese have built an entire subculture in their porn industry devoted to the schoolgirl and how it’s so fun to rape and torture them. If this guy had a weak mind it would be very easy for him to fall into this fantasy world as well.

He didn’t want to pay her and she called him out and said he raped her. He could have just paid her as he promised and this would never have happened.
I guess while he is in jail for four years he can think about a cost benefit analisis of what he did. A lesson to all, if you promise to pay a hooker, then pay up.

Sheesh! He could have just bought some used schoolgirl underwear from a vending machine and saved all the hassle.
Or… he could have gone to the fish market, bought an octopus and gotten his tentacle pr0n freak on… or a squid if he could have handled 20 percent more tentacle…
…and, when he was done, unlike the schoolgirl, there would have been no shame in eating the evidence.

I can never understand the sentences under the UCMJ. I don’t have access to the evidence, but it seems on the surface he is getting off too light.

I have heard from multiple sources that the girl was in fact a prostitute and he would not pay her thus she cried rape. That is why the girl did not want to go through the embarassment of a Japanese trial because the police knew she was a prostitute as well.
However the prosecution for the court martial probably could not prove he had sex with the girl without her testifying or any other evidence thus the reason for the sexual abuse conviction for touching her in a sexual way.
If this girl was a prostitute then basically this guy got four years in jail, a dishonarable discharge which means if he was close to retirement is a huge loss, and then may have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life for basically a prostitution deal gone bad. When you look at it that way this is actually a pretty stiff sentence.
Do I feel sorry for him? No way, this guy is a sleaze ball. Maybe he didn’t know the girl with 14 but still he had to know she was pretty darn young. For 38 year old guy to go and mess around with a young teenager even if she was a prostitute is just asking for trouble and he got it.
