US to Search Han River for Korean War Remains

It is good to see that the US military will go to literally any depths necessary to bring back our war dead:

A U.S. military team will dive into Seoul’s Han River next week to search for remains of American soldiers killed in the Korean War, a U.S. official said Thursday.

The underwater search, the first of its kind here, is one of two missions currently operating in South Korea, according to Charles A. Ray, a deputy assistant secretary of defense for prisoner of war and missing personnel affairs. The other, a ground unit, is working in the vicinity of the Demilitarized Zone that divides the two Koreas. [Yonhap]

Depending on where they intend to search, this could be problematic in the fact that some portions of the Han (especially through Seoul and it’s environs) are very murky and with the rainy season at hand the currents become rather swift and the water will sometimes swell the river to a great extent. I’m wondering if any such remains remain in the river and have not been washed out into the Yellow Sea (pardon me, West Sea) a long time ago.

I’m curious as well on how the are going to find the remains in the murky waters and the muddy bottom below the river. Plus it seems to me they are going to find many Korean bodies in the water when you just consider how many Koreans died when just the Han River Bridge was blown.
