Bob on the FOB’s Creature Gallery

» by in: Humor

You may have to have done a tour in Iraq or Afghanistan to really appreciate these cartoons but they are quite funny.

The Fobbit is now quite a well known military term that is the equivalent of what a REMF was in prior American wars:

1-fobbit.JPG

The TOCroach is actually a phenomenon that is not limited to just combat deployments. These guys can be found all over the military:

2-tocroach.JPG

I have seen some of these Geardos working gate guard before in 2ID:

3-geardo.JPG

Being an OIF1 veteran myself, I have to say The Storyteller shouldn’t just be limited to us OIF1 vets:

4-story-fella.JPG

The Good Idea Fairy can be found any every unit and usually they thrive in the S3 shop:

5-good-idea-fairy.JPG

The Shower Princess I really didn’t have much experience with because there were so few showers:

6-shower-princess.JPG

RUMINT spreads at incredible speeds in the barracks:

7-rumint.JPG

Here is something else I can say I haven’t had any experience with because there was no Combat Action Badges when I was in Iraq:

8-cab-chaser.JPG

Funny stuff and I think a couple of creatures that can be added to the gallery are Barracks Lawyers and Trustifarians. Neither creature is extremely dangerous but both can be quite frustrating to put up with at times. Anyone else have any other creature suggestions?

Gundummy–a name for the Squids (Navy) and Zoomies (Air Force) guys and yes, even gals drafted for MiTT duty who have never worn gear or handled weapons since their basic training. A few weeks ago one was clearing his M4 without dropping the magazine, ejecting one round at a time.

These are awesome, my husband and I are both in the army and we are so glad that someone took the time to do them. I have my CAB and I worked in the S3 so sadly I had to deal with all of these creatures and my husband works in the motor pool which means he has been in close contact with these creatures also. All the people who had their CABs thought they had to become a group and talk about how they had got theirs so they are just like the storyfeller. It's awesome how every sigle one of these go hand in hand. DAMN I LOVE THE ARMY!!!

Howabout one for a POGollum. Named after the creature form LOTR, Gollum, a POGollum is the poor creature that scrounges around looking for discarded POGs. They are known to ask people for POGs, particularly those leaving Middle Earth. Targets for their evil POG gathering plot are frequently CAB chasers.

That has all the elements of a joke, except it is completely lacking in humor.

Great stuff! This is m first tour in Iraq and I have had the unfortunate opportunity to have meet all of these creatures. I think I might have found a sub-species of the 'storyfeller'. I this one the neggagator (combine negative and alligator). This individual also tells stories about his/her first or second, maybe third time in Iraq and constantly complains about how messed up things are this time around. Also they never take initiative and try to find ways to do as little as possible, while complaining about it, and always tries to subvert others by acting like they are talking to you in confidence, or try to gain your sympathy. Know anyone like that? Keep up the pics, its a good way to laugh it off.

what about the shamm artist… aka the shamarai warrior. one who shams his or her way outta anything risking life and limb and sometimes doing more work to sham that it would take just to complete the task at hand.

Funny, but I resent that comment about AF guys. I (Air Force) was a 365 Deployment volunteer at a FOB with ARMY and Navy too, but guess who was the Gundummy at our FOB…An ARMY member! This slick discharged a 50 cal round off the top of his vehicle as he was exiting and nearly hit our guys in the tower.

is there anything for someone who goes to combat stress all the time to avoid little tasks and when confronted…takes it up to IG? i think we just call them dirt bags or blue falcons but i need something in reference to OIF. i was in q-west on a 15 month and it was alittle worse than garrison. absolutley no reason for that soldier to be in combat stress though. bob on the fob is great by the way.

or better yet, the soldiers who join the ARMY or anything else just for the sole purpose of college than end up getting deployed not realizing there is still a war going on. those are funny people. Maybe. kind of sad though cuz they take up space.

Some POG's are cool, but even you that act like you support the Infantry are annoying as hell. The only POG's I have respect for are medics, becuase they have saved many of my buddies lives or atleast struggled their hardest to try, cooks, because when I can get a hot meal, he does what he can and supply, because how else am I going to get a new weapons sling when mine was ripped by shrapnel.

MEDICS aren't pog's. I can out ruck and out shoot most of my guys. DON'T PISS DOC OFF.

Fantastic stuff! I've heard about these sorta creatures from family members who have served. I'm about to enlist, so will surely come across them and occasionally play the part of at least one of these creatures. I'd like to say I won't "be that guy," but I'm no fool. The FNG just can't help it.

Thanks for sharing, and thanks for your service!

Being a former Marine you need a specific one for the Marines and the "harder then you swagger they walk with" especialy prevalent in those Marines who also happen to be FOBbits.

And hate to talk bad about my brothers but you know the ones im talking about Army guy can have three purple hearts four CAB's and get told by some 110lb paper pushing Marine he ain't nothing because he is just Army and Marines do all the work.

No, “former Marine” is fine. You’re thinking of “ex-Marine.”

As for the gundummy, I understand how that was mostly true, but it was a Marine who nearly shot me at a clearing barrel.
