North Korea Not Planning to Disclose Nuclear Weapons

The six party charade continues:

North Korea is expected this week to turn over its long-delayed accounting of its nuclear weapons activities, part of a chain of events leading to a unique photo opportunity: the destruction of the cooling tower at Pyongyang’s main reactor.

One item that won’t make the declaration, which the White House says is due Thursday, will be North Korea’s nuclear bombs. The omission means the world will have to wait for an answer to the question at the heart of the nearly six-year-old standoff: Is the North ready to give up its nuclear weapons? [Burt Herman - AP]

As I and others have been saying for quite sometime, North Korea has no intention of giving up their nuclear weapons for a variety of reasons. Even the cooling tower demolition is no big deal because the Yongbyon facility is decrepit and unsafe and they are demanding a cash payment in order for them to demolish it. Maybe he will buy “humanitarian aid” with the money?

The North Koreans are also refusing to come clean on their nuclear cooperation with Syria that has since been linked to Iran’s nuclear program. So what exactly is our State Department about to reward the North Koreans for again?
