Citizens Watch as Baby is Bashed

The Korean public gets a lot of criticism for not being good samaritans, so to be fair here is an example that Koreans are not the only ones willing to stand around and do nothing:

One witness estimated that this deranged adult delivered in excess of 100 stomps, kicks, and punches in an attack that lasted at least seven minutes.

At the time of the first 911 calls, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department helicopter happened to be in the sky above Turlock. This air unit responded within six minutes to the frantic citizen reports, along with ground units. From the air above the scene, the helicopter crew (SCSD pilot and Modesto Police Department observer) witnessed the brutal beating as they lit up the man and the toddler with their spotlight.

The pilot made a skillful, night emergency landing as closely as possible in a field. It was a cow pasture separated from the road by a daunting obstacle electrified, barbed wire fencing.
Immediately upon landing, the Modesto officer sprinted 20 yards to the fence – commanding the suspect to cease his brutal attack against the helpless baby. The suspect’s response was to say “I’m not going to prison.” He raised his middle finger to the officer and continued kicking and stomping the baby.

The officer responded with the only option he had left. From a reported 10-foot distance, he shot the suspect in the forehead. The suspect dropped, dead, ending one of the most brutal and horrific attacks imaginable.  [Police Mag via Blackfive]

Great shooting by the policeman, but I have to wonder why didn’t the witnesses that saw the guy beat the baby one hundred times do something to stop him?  I am willing to bet that Koreans would not allow some guy to beat and kill a baby like this thug did.  These people in California that let this go on should be ashamed of themselves.

During the attack, the young man was described as “very calm” and talked about “getting the demons out” of the child, all the while continuing the onslaught.

    Jesus strikes again.

I believe witnesses did try and stop the guy. I think the witnesses may have been elderly. My wife and I talked about it the day it was reported and she speculated that the man may have been on PCP. This area of California does have something of a reputation for people using PCP.

actually, my brother was one of the officers that responded to the scene. The man was Chinese and his wife was Korean. This post has stereotypes all over it.

If the witnesses were elderly then that could explain why they didn't do anything to stop the guy which is understandable. Nevertheless great job by the policeman.

Another defenseless victim of religion and superstition. At least we don't have to suffer with the lengthy court case and him being aquitted due to his personal beliefs. Nice shot officer!

Thanks. I expected Catholic Mexicans by the geographic locale and the fact that an ex-brother-in-law of mine was Mexican and prone to violence against children in the name of Jesus, but I didn’t want to jump to conclusions at the risk of sounding realistic, which is frowned upon in our kindler gentler blogosphere.

@ 3: "The man was Chinese and his wife was Korean."

Sergio Casian Aguiar and Frances Liliana Casian hardly sound like Chinese and Korean names to me.

Google this story and read other accounts and you will find that a young woman chanced on the scene, called 911 and it only took a short time for the police to arrive. In the meantime, witnesses did indeed try to stop the man and the two young men who jumped in were unarmed and had no idea if the deranged man was armed. This is not a story about people standing idly by but rather about people doing the right thing without regard to their own safety. The story linked is from a police journal that downplayed the role of the civilians but other accounts confirm that this is not a case of witnesses refusing to get involved, they just didn't have the firepower the police did to deal with a crazed man.

Wasn't there an electric fence preventing them from doing anything about it? I'm pretty sure that's what the article says, and that's also why the policeman had to shoot him instead of OC, taze, or baton him.
