Newly imported American beef appears to be selling well in Korea:
Sales of US beef have begun, with one beef distributor in Siheung-dong selling his entire 200kg supply of poison US death meat unfit for even animal consumption in just six hours.
Most of it was purchased by ordinary consumers, although the biggest buyer was some church in Sinchon, which bought 35kg of killer meat for a church outing. Terrible, I know — they’d be safer sending missionaries to Afghanistan. [Marmot's Hole]
This Yonhap report is saying that certificates to sell US beef are growing but it has been slow going for the quarantine inspection process:
“Since the first beef shipments received quarantine clearance certificates on Monday, the total number of certificates issued has grown sharply, but only two shipments have actually cleared customs,” said an official of the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service. He said 0.4 ton cleared customs on Monday and 18.5 tons were sent through customs on Tuesday. [Yonhap]
It is still early but it appears there is definitely plenty of people in Korea not buying the mad cow scare mongering and instead buying US beef.

I wonder how many millions of dollars worth of Korean automobiles, cell phones and other consumer electonics cleared US Customs yesterday…

The Prime Minister made it a point to buy 12kg of the US beef. If the Lee governmemt wamted to make a point, every one of Lee Myeong-bak’s cabinet and high ranking secretaries would be following the Prime Minister’s example.
They don’t have to eat the stuff — but it’s the perception that’s important. Right now even Yonhap News is putting out conflicting articles on the same date no less with one article saying meat selling like hotcakes, while another article saying that meat retailers saying it’s still not the right time to sell the US beef.

I found some posts on the net that the church “sam-rip” mentioned in the interview with the leader of the sellers who claimed that the beef sold well, doesn’t exist, although a certain “sam-rip” supermarket does.

“Now I’m definately not buying a Hyundai.”
Good move. By boycotting Korean companies and Korean businesses you send a positive message that Korean anti-Americanism is not welcome. We cam stop Korean racism and hatred if we work together.

Just when you think the anti-American protest can’t get anymore insane then anti-American priests and monks. It gets more insane:
http://www.suntimes.com/business/1035598,skorea070208.article
“Partial walkouts at Kia Motors Corp. and South Korea’s largest carmaker, Hyundai Motor Co., were the centerpiece of a one-day strike by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions to protest U.S. beef imports and the pro-business policies of President Lee Myung-bak. ”
Auto employees are now anti-American. Its shocking because Koreans dump their crappy cars in the USA.

Its sad to me that the USA lets in these people and the Koreans in turn express only hatred for the USA. I hope Americans open their eyes to their Korean neighbors.

Most Bird Flu Vaccine is made in USA and Europe.
It is not 100% safe. There are the one in a million batches that can cause sickness.
The amount of Vaccine available (stored) in Korea, would serve about 15 % of the people, and has already been allotted for certian gruops of people (police, army, medical staff).
Now, I believe these same people who riot every night, would do excactly the same, should bird flu become epidemic here, but this time thet would be rioting and demanding that the Government should allow MORE vaccinne here, that they have a right to this life saving vaccine.
It is interesting that the shops that do have American beef can’t sell it fast enough. The telephones are ringing constantly. Who is demanding this Poisoned beef?
Your neighbour?
Notice how much lower the price of Korean beef is in the supermarkets lately? This is the amount that you have been charged extra and forced to do this, by your very powerful beef lobby. Thay have alot of money to loose. (money that you have been paying them for years, to run inefficent farms).
In fact you don’t even trust your local shop or restaurant, to not fool you and give you american beef, hence why you demand that the beef is not allowed in, rather than just not buying it.
How many of you buy Sony electronics products?
How many Japanese cars you see in Seoul?
Do you think the huge amount of chicken, and other food products from China are all safe?
Your own farmers ship sick chickens in Kwanju to other farmers, knowing they have bird flu, spreading the disease, to make a quick Won.
Only 36 % of voters, voted in Seoul, yet 100 days later you want your Government out.
If American beef was so poisioness, don’t you think all Countries would ban it?
Remember that telephone at A1 meats in Seoul is going to keep ringing day after day. And soon lots of meat counters at shops in this Country will have lots of Korean customers lined up and pushing to get the beef you hate so much. All over the Country you will be able to buy reasonably priced beef. How nice. Your Farmers will be angry no doubt as the profit margins they were making on that Korean beef went from outrageous to more reasonable.
So rioters why don’t you protest at your neighbours house. They are the ones with the beef in their homes, lots of beef stashed away, watching you try to destroy your own law and order on TV every night.
You lost the battle. It’s time to go home. Thousands of your fellow citizens are voting with their money. They aee buying the beef. The beef is not sitting in those shops with nobody intersted, nope, you can get it in fast enough. Sells out too fast.
Game over. Put another coin in the game and find another thing to vent your supressed anger.
How about those Chinese crabs that get sent here full of lead. Now that will kill you.
