Here is another one of those only in Korea moments:
Scarf for pilots: Fashion designer Andre Kim ties a red neck scarf round Capt. Ha Jeong-mi, the first South Korean female pilot for the KF-16 fighter, during a ceremony in Seoul to designate July 3 as “the Day of Pilots.” South Korea’s pilots made their first sorties with F-51 bombers on July 3, 1950, a week after the Korean War (1950-53) broke out. Kim designed the new red scarf on his own for Air Force pilots. A red scarf, often called “red muffler,” is a symbol for the South Korean Air Force. Standing at left is Capt. Lee Woo-beom of the Air Force’s 19th Fighter Wing, who was selected as last year’s best pilot “Top Gun.” [Korea Times]
