Korean Student Accuses Swiss Police of Abuse

Get the candles out those dastardly Swiss are at again:

A Korean student has charged Swiss border police with subjecting him to abuse reminiscent of the Abu Ghraib scandal in Iraq, the Korean Embassy in Switzerland said.

The embassy said a Korean exchange student it identified as Lee was forced to submit to a strip search and physical abuse when he was on a train from France to the northern Swiss town of Basle on Feb. 18.

Lee complained on the website of the Korean Embassy in the Swiss capital of Berne two days later. He explained that police suspected the powdered nutritional supplements he was carrying were heroin.

According to Lee, Swiss border guards dragged him into their office and although a drug test turned up negative forced him to kneel on the ground naked, kicking and slapping him several times when he did not immediately do as they told him.

Cleared of suspicion, Lee said he left the office and asked a person who appeared to be in charge his name and contact information and demanded an apology. When he was refused, he asked his embassy to investigate. [Chosun Ilbo]

I wonder if this has anything to do with this?

Like the one about China's least favorite neighbor, this article is old. From February, 2005. Likely bumped up on the Chosun Ilbo site after some forum recently linked to it.

Surely, the North Korean Embassy in Berne has such a pristine reputation that a Korean guy with a mysterious white powder should be free from suspicion.

Good. I hope that Korean got it good!

Now strip search the waegooks coming into Korea, beat them up naked and punch their eyes out. No drugs found? No problem. Just send them away with a warning.

I wonder what kind of a miserable whining we would have here if that ever happened?

We all know Koreans never violate the rights of foreigners in Korea. This isn't an excuse I know.
