ZenKimchi Featured in the JoongAng Ilbo

Joe McPherson of ZenKimchi fame has a feature on him and his website featured this week in the JoongAng Ilbo:

“This American Life” is a U.S. radio show gaining worldwide popularity for its enchanting storytelling. The weekly program, streaming into Korea through a podcast, is comprised of different stories on a certain theme.
An American living in Anyang, south of Seoul, is doing a weekly podcast that he hopes will emulate the popularity of the U.S. radio show.
Unlike This American Life, however, the theme of “Seoul Podcast” never changes — it’s all about Korea.
“I wanted to create an outlet to talk about Korea, and no one else was really doing it,” Joe McPherson, 34, said of his podcasting in a recent interview in Seoul.

Make sure to read the rest of the interview, but it is good to see a fellow K-blogger getting some well deserved recognition.

    ||Unshaven, fat, hiibillies [s/b hillbillies] who go from burger flipping job to burger flipping job in the states, can get jobs in Korea even without talent or qualifications. Way to go JOE!||

That's a pretty bad picture of Joe. Joe is usually a dapper dresser. Joe had a couple good careers going on back in the USA before Korea. Technical writing and producing an Air America radio show don't sound like burger flipping to me. It seems to me Joe gets these jobs in Korea because he's done the grunt work in the trenches and has proven his talent.

The New York Times ever put you in its Golden Rolodex for Korea, VSG?

    http://www.netlingo.com/lookup.cfm?term=Golden%20…

What have you ever accomplished in life, VSG, besides being a minor player hater in a two-bit nation that can't even land a winter olympics? Joe must make you feel pretty small, eh?

    ||I have always found that the “foreign community” stories highlighted people I find particlaly [s/b particularly] disturbing. Most of the real expats (kyopos excluded) seem to be the lowest of the sellout types. Why would I call them sellouts? Well anybody who get [s/b gets] on their knees in order to flatter and masterbate [s/b masturbate] korean egos, [don't need the comma, actually] is a sellout. Need proof?

“We come to everything that’s in the news. We even talk about Bae Yong-joon,”

Put your alabama peter back in your overalls Joe. Sellout.

“I am trying to show off Korean food,” he said.”

I have said many times that no good deed in korea goes unpunished. I can’t wait for Joe to get his.||

Shattered your fallacy is the unstated major premise that what the reporter quoted was Joe's words and the intent of his words. I'm not sure if you've ever been interviewed by a print journalist but you can talk for 45 minutes and they cherry pick three sentences and use those sentences to support the story the reporter wants to tell. Clearly the reporter hasn't listened to 5 minutes of SeoulPodcast. I never detect much Korean "masterbating" going on in Joe's podcast.

You and VGS only confirm for me some pretty small men end up in Korea. I for one am happy Joe is managing to highlight via his podcast that there are some cool people in the Korean expat community and it's not all small men like yourself who go ballistic anytime there's an iota of evidence someone in the expat community has it better because of effort and talent.

Sorry, shattered. I'm not a sock. The blog owner will be happy to confirm these postings are coming from very different IPs from very different parts of the world.

    You appear even smaller now.

smarter_than_vsg, stop feeding the troll. If you disagree with him, he always comes back with a "relax, stop defending Korea" or something to that effect. There is no useful conversation, discussion or debate with him.

VSG why are you such a hater? Joe is not a sell out. He has been here for years and has more talent than you'll ever have.

I think you should read what Ask a Korean and Roboseyo wrote on why foreigners complain so much. Which category do you fit in?

Joe is not a "sellout" and should not be the target of personal attacks for running a Korean food blog. He runs obviously the best blog on Korean food and in no way parrots Korean talking points that a "sellout" would do.

"He runs obviously the best blog on Korean food and in no way parrots Korean talking points that a “sellout” would do."

Fair enough GI. This is your blog and you make the rules. However, if you would allow me, I would be happy to make my case.

BTW, "smarter than shattered" I have never said “relax, stop defending Korea” or anything like that.
