A Canadian teenager recently had quite a scare in Busan:
Police sought an arrest warrant Tuesday for a middle-aged South Korean man accused of kidnapping a Canadian teenager and threatening to kill her unless she would date him.
The 41-year-old man, only identified by his surname Kim, abducted the girl Friday night, Kim Seong-kwan, an officer in the southeastern port city of Busan, said. The suspect took away her cell phone and made death threats with a knife until the 17-year-old agreed to date him, Kim said. [Yonhap]
This guy sounds like he is probably deranged, but you combine this by reading other stories like this and this of foreign women being kidnapped and assaulted in Korea it should be a sign that even though Korea is a relatively safe country, people still need to take basic safety precautions they would take in their own home countries.

So the ultimate questionis: Is a female allowed to defend herself, and to what level? Or, is she required by Korean law to lay down and take it after which she may report the crime to the police.
