What year do you live in that you would think to make a comment like that?

It is interesting that often times the accusations of racism tells more about the person making the accusation then the person they are accusing.

The fact of the matter is that if it was a McDonald’s opening up in downtown Fallujah I would make the same comment because it is interesting that the presidential candidate of the party that claims the surge is a failure and there is no progress in Iraq is visiting at the same time a KFC is opening in downtown Fallujah.

Who would have ever imagined that happening before the surge?

Jon, Obama does not claim that the surge was a failure; rather, he claims that the surge, while successful locally, diverts the focus away from other, proper locus of terrorism.

Of course, I would imagine you would be at the better position to evaluate that claim. (And if you read my blog, you would know I’m not too excited about Obama either.) But I’m sure you would agree that getting the correct assertion is important.

Notice I said the “candidate of the political party that claims the surge is a failure and there is no progress in Iraq”. Obama is to clever come out and bash the military directly and thus relies on others in his party like Reid, Pelosi, Murtha, etc. to bad mouth the military in Iraq in order to appease his extreme left.

I have never seen Obama criticize the claims from people in his own party especially something as outrageous as Murtha’s claims that Marine’s killed civilians in “cold blood” that were later proven to be false with the uncovering of the Al Qaeda media operation and acquitals of the Marines implicated in the Haditha incident.

Also remember Obama was against the surge from the beginning. If Obama had his way and US troops were pulled out prematurely like he wanted two years ago Iraq would have turned into an absolute disaster. Al Qaeda in Iraq would control a portion of the country, ethnic cleansing would have been rampant which could have led to the possibility of a regional war breaking out.

Compare that to today where a KFC is opening up in downtown Fallujah.

A KFC opening in Fallujah doesn’t hint at any kind of military success in Iraq, but only demonstrates the fact that life goes on despite the country being war-torn and topple-ready. Iraqi children still go to school and play in the streets. People earn livings by running shops and restaurants, and by providing services. This KFC is just another example of common Iraqis adapting to their circumstances.

I think KFCs entry into the Iraqi market can’t be dismissed. Companies like KFC generally come into an international market that’s stable. It takes quite a bit of planning and evaluation to determine if it’s even feasible and many times coordination and help must be provided by other large international companies to even make it possible to establish the necessary infrastructure.

I went to school a couple of guys that started the first McDonald’s in Russia. They had to set up plants to produce all the food products and condiments, and a lot of help was given by Coca-Cola Corp. before they could even come up with a workable plan.

Awesome, it speaks volumes as to the situation in Iraq. KFC today, McDonalds tommorrow, pizza hut, maybe even BBQ pork ribs in the future. I can only wonder when the first Walmart will be built.

Getchuself sounds like he doesn’t have a clue about what’s going on in Iraq. If having a KFC in FALLUJAH of all places doesn’t hint at some kind of success, then he must be smoking some strong crack. A few years ago, Fallujah was a hotbed for Islamic extremists and anyone/anything that presents western ideals in that town would’ve been beheaded, shot, and burnt (in that order). KFC and Col. Sanders sure sounds western (AMERICAN) to me. Yeah, life goes on I suppose.

By the way GI, there is a McDonalds in Iraq. It’s in Suleymaniah, Kurdistan. I’d post the link, but the spam filter hates it and only lets me post once per day. Do a google search if you like.

There is no way St. Barack would eat at KFC. He only buys fresh , locally grown Arugula at Whole Foods
