Just when things were getting quiet… Police arrest U.S. soldier for alleged robbery

Just when things were getting quiet before Bush’s stop-over summit a bozo robs a convenience store on 2 Aug.

Police officers arrested the U.S. soldier, whose full name wasn’t disclosed, for the alleged robbery at the store in Pyeongtaek, about 65 kilometers south of Seoul, as of about 2:00 a.m. on the same day.

The U.S. soldier, who is stationed at a major U.S. Army base called Camp Humphreys, was accused of stealing some 270,000 won (US$266) after threatening a clerk at the convenience store with a knife, according to the police. Yonhap News.)

Hope it’s not blown out of shape as an excuse for violence and anti-Americanism during the protests on 5 Aug.

Never ever assume a soldier is guilty until you learn he actually confessed to the crime. There is often more than meets the eye in these stories about GI crime. It could be true but I’d sure wait before piling on with comments.

Soldiers NEVER confess. If they do THEY WERE DRYNK. Sorry to offend but when they whip it out on the subway, rape 67 y/o grandmother THREE times, & rob a 7-11 on camera… I am pretty sure they are gulity and I will risk the retraction. Stop defending punks and thugs. If you have a beef, start with the Army lowering recruitung standards and looking the other way. Notice the problems are with 19-24/25 y/o. Its not rocket science to see the qulity of recuits has met an all time low…

John wrote the “qulity of troops is at an all time low”? I have been know to make a typo in a response now and again but that’s funny.

Unlike John, in my experience, soldiers almost always confess. One of the reasons I love soldiers is they may do stupid things now and again but they usually own up to it when presented with the evidence. I am simply cautioning you that one should NEVER assume the guilt of a soldier involved in a crime in Korea based on an account in a Korean newspaper or a Korean news service. There are undoubtedly thugs and punks in uniform but having been falsely accused in the Korean system and knowing a number of people who have been similarly falsely accused, I tend to wait to see more facts before rendering a judgment.

My spelling is on a level of its own and is a one time draft kinda thing. Its funny too but in my defense I was waking up still when I typed it. My point is the young ones are causing a majority of incidents and if your presented with a few hard facts…the rest is self-evident. “I was drunk” is defense #1 from the soldiers handbook of excuses. We are in a war…a PR war like it or not. The under 25/26 crowd repeatedly are stepping on their d@#!s and it make ALL of us look bad. Your a wait and see kinda guy…I am if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…then it must be a duck. HOWEVER, my spelling without spell check is my trademark…Im a content sorta guy >.<
