It was so one-sided and obvious that I was beside myself. To their credit most of the Koreans sitting nearby were equally shocked. I kept joking in Korean for someone to call the police, there was a robbery in progress and again, to their credit, many of the Koreans nearby were laughing and agreeing. It was dreadful. I understand the Koreans finally owned up to the fact that a judge had been bribed. Unfortunately what happened in '88 is that the Koreans failed to "host" the Olympics and instead medal fever took over. My favorite story (and there were many) was the bus that failed to arrive at the Olympic village to transport the boxers to a preliminary bout. The Korean boxing officials immediately called for the American boxers who had failed to arrive to be disqualified.
