Followed a Google maps update down this rabbit hole. I was in CS '77-78 in the 2nd Med. Battalion. Still have the PT cap.
Gonna have to dig out the old B&W photos.

I was stationed at Camp Stanley from AUGUST 1982 to AUGUST 1983 in C-4-7 Air Cav. I was a squad leader in the Aero-Recon Platoon; a Blues Platoon (aka Charlie Blues). Had a fantastic year in Korea. Flying at 90 knots 50 feet above the rice paddies while sitting on the floor boards of our Hueys with our legs hanging out and booney rags flapping in the breeze. Huey flairing, crew chief hammering away with his M60, jumping out and diving for cover as the Huey lifts away. We were gods then...

I went on to Special Forces and ended up doing 30 years in the Army but my time at Stanley still remains one of the best years of my career.

Sure would be great to hear from my squad again. don.shipman@gmail.com

Ronald Foster
Nice to see someone there the same period of time I was, had no idea the camp was still there. I could not find where it was when I went back 10 years later, paved roads most of the way by 1977/8, Seoul had grown, lots of super highways, dikes across the highway with a path thru with huge blocks of cement ready to blow, tank traps, etc. Was across the DMZ 77/78 and it was still mostly the same, quanset huts, etc. Remember the fire guard duties to keep the deisel burning, smell the KATUSA's roasting Squid, running to the centralized latrines and showers, etc. As medic spent time covering a movement or patrol but most my time was TDY with the 547th Engineers Camp Mercer.

I was stationed at Camp Stanley 1967 until 1968. It was Engineers through and through. I have no idea when they changed over. Some of us men went walking in the mountains behind the camp and came upon a Buddhist Temple. There was a statue of Buda and it was real large and covered in pure gold. This was a sight to behold. Still lived in quiescent huts and had oil heat.

Gregory

That was a cool post (#79) thanks! I was at Pelham in the Ville Songeri during 1983 and now wished I had stayed in Korea longer. What odd feelings I get when I remember that year! I would E-mail you but you didn't leave your address in your post above. I'm at hiler8@gmail.com and have photos and such to share if your interested.
