I know that I have problems with numbers, but something just doesn’t add up. According to the Yonhap News on 26 Aug 2008:
The number of South Koreans infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) totaled 4,686 as of late June, up by 394 cases in the first half, the government said Tuesday. The Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs said the total number of HIV infections that can lead to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and death, does not include the 1,031 people that have died so far of the disease.
However on 20 Jul 2007, the Korea Times stated:
As of June 30, 4,956 South Koreans had contracted the disease, of which 905 died.
Let’s see 124 died of AIDS in the past year, but the total numbers DECREASED by about 270 — meaning that 146 HIV carriers have simply DISAPPEARED. Hmmm…. and of course, this also means that no Korean turned up HIV positive in the past year. Huh??? Something just doesn’t add up.
