Soldiers Appeals Denied in Sexual Assault Case

Keep this in mind the next time you want to go out and try and hug someone in Korea:

The convictions of two servicemembers assigned to 8th Army who forcibly hugged two female high school students were upheld, the 2nd Court of the Korea Supreme Court confirmed Tuesday.

The court agreed with the initial 2.5 million won ($2,176) fine levied against the servicemembers, whom the court would identify only as “Pfc. Henry” and “Pfc. Andrew,” for grabbing two girls in June 2007 in Seoul.

Henry forcibly hugged one of the girls while Andrew grabbed the other girl by the waist, the court said in a statement.

The court deemed their actions to constitute sexual assault.

The failed appeal did benefit the soldiers in one way: the won has fallen so far against the dollar this year that the fine will cost them hundreds of dollars than it would have last year. [Stars & Stripes]

I don’t know the circumstances of this case but I just have to wonder if these two were out there doing their free hugs thing in Seoul that was popular in Korea last year around the time these two were arrested?

With all of the crap that has been going on in Korea…and these two idiots still go out and start putting their hands on underage females???

If they did it to one of my daughters I would want their ass locked up too.

Stupid is, as Stupid does…

Sounds like assault. Should receive some punishment from on post also.

I wonder what the Korean legal definition of assault is?

In Georgia, if I remember correctly, this would be simple assault - which if I remember correctly - can even involve just the use of “fighting words” with no physical contact at all.

But….when you say “assault” in general, I think most people envision bloody noses and black eyes….
