Short article 6 Oct Headline:  Bandit Army Aiding Japan

A correspondent….traveling between Sing-min-Tung and Kin-Chow interviewed Chinese bandit chiefs who affired that 10,000 brigands were engaged actively in the theatre of war.

The chiefs added that they were cooperating heartily with the Japanese, and that they were excellent, hardy fighters.

Their chief, Chinsoosan, is a favorite at Court.

Short article 8 Oct Headline:  Boxers Alarm China

Numerous reports received from the interior telling of the activity of secret societies at points widely apart are causing serious uneasiness.

It is known that the officials everywhere are displaying great anxiety and are procuring the most modern arms and munitions of war for the purpose of equipping the soldiery.

It is not certain whether the anxiety of the officials is in regard to anticipated risings or whether it is a precautionary movement in view of possible danger from a successful Japan.
