ROK to Consider Dispatching Navy to Somali Waters

It is about time the ROK government looked at doing this considering all the hijackings of Korean ships in recent years off the Somali coast:

The government will send a delegation to Somalia to decide whether to dispatch a naval vessel to the Somali coast where ships are frequently abducted by pirates.

An official says the vessel dispatch is being discussed among concerned government agencies, and an inspection team of foreign and defense ministry officials will soon head to the African nation.

A military officer, however, says the team size and composition, and departure date are undecided.

After sending the team, the government will review the situation and decide on the naval dispatch.  [KBS Global]

Hopefully something better for the ROKN do to other than protecting the waters off Dokdo from Japanese tourists.

During a White House press briefing this month, McCormick stated that the US was requested for intervention by the Somali government in the past. And…(silence — meaning the US will do nothing).

Bottomline: If this was an in-and-out extraction like the Mayaquez incident in Cambodia after the fall of Vietnam (authorized by Ford) then it would be great. Blow up the pirates and go home. But if not, you get stuck in those waters indefinitely. That is why the US will NOT get involved — and THAT IS WHY THE ROK MND DO NOT WANT TO DISPATCH ANYTHING TOO!!!

The latest MND fact-finding group is only a political ploy for show.
