Meetings Open On Designating DMZ A World Heritage Area

» by in: DMZ

It looks like Korea may get yet another UNESCO designation:

An international conference dealing with the creation of an ecological park in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) will open in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province on Thursday.

Various academics from both home and abroad will attend the gathering, including American journalist and writer of “The World Without Us,” Alan Weisman and Director of UNESCO’s Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences Natarajan Ishwaran.

Participants will also discuss ways to designate the DMZ as a UNESCO biosphere reserve and share views on various projects the two Koreas can pursue within the DMZ.  [KBS Global]
