Just when you thought the people surrounding the North Korean nuclear issue couldn’t get any worse it does:
An influential U.S. foreign policy organization will propose to the new U.S. president that two prominent former U.S. officials be sent to North Korea as special envoys to end the protracted North Korean nuclear stalemate, RFA reported Saturday.
The National Committee on American Foreign Policy (NCAFP), a leading non-profit foreign diplomacy brainstorming organ, plans to propose the dispatch of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former Defense Secretary William Perry to Pyongyang within a few months after a new U.S. president assumes office to move the stalled negotiation to a fast-track conclusion.
The proposal, which is expected to be announced on Nov. 7 in New York, will contain a concrete “roadmap” stating that if Pyongyang complies with a “complete and verifiable” denuclearization, Washington, in turn, will offer a security guarantee as well as other economic and political benefits
The Kissinger-Perry plan is seen by the Washington diplomatic community as a very viable option to resolve the prolonged nuclear standoff since the two former officials command wide bipartisan respect in Capitol Hill and have a deep knowledge of North Korea’s nuclear crisis. [Korea Times]
I respect Kissinger’s foreign policy experience but in regards to North Korea issues I have seen very little involvement from him in the past. Heck that may be a good thing considering how wrong people deeply involved in North Korea issues such as Kim Jong-Bill Richardson have been in the past in regards to North Korea policy. That would include William Perry who would be included in this special envoy plan.

Perry has on multiple occasions proposed bombing North Korea which would have been a ridiculous decision. Any bombing campaign against the DPRK would validate the very reason Kim Jong-il proclaims for needing both a ICBM and nuclear programs; to protect the country from US aggression not to mention possibly causing a second Korean War which the US would have clearly been the aggressor. Additionally the US would have never gathered the valuable intelligence of the failed test. The US didn’t totally know the NK ICBM capabilities, now US intelligence has a better understanding of the North’s ICBM capabilities. It is the same thing with the nuclear test. The US now knows that the NK nuclear program is not as advanced as the North Koreans would want you to believe. None of this would have been discovered if a bombing campaign was waged against North Korea. I could go on and on about why attacking North Korea would not serve US interests.
Yet someone who has been so wrong about North Korea is being proposed to become a special envoy. Let’s hope this is one piece of advice President-Elect Obama does not listen too.

I didn't have a big problem with Bill Richardson. I think he did a good job considering the issues involved. The Nuclear issues while unresolved are headed in the right direction. At least he didn't give Kim jong Il a pair of Michael Phelps swim trunks.

[...] Albright & Perry duo is even worse then the prior proposed Kissinger & Perry duo. Might as well throw in Kim Jong-Bill and pull off the perfect North Korea incompetence [...]
