It looks like everyone’s favorite balloon man Park Sang-hak may soon be government supported:
A group of lawmakers from the ruling Grand National Party (GNP) is seeking to provide state support for private organizations which broadcast programs and spread leaflets criticizing North Korea’s communist regime.
Lawmakers Hwang Woo-yeo and Hwang Jin-ha proposed a bill promoting human rights in North Korea which would provide private anti-communist broadcasters and civic groups with a total 600 million won for the distribution of leaflets and the provision of information on the free democratic world to North Koreans.
Hwang Woo-yea called for the government’s support of activities promoting North Koreans’ basic rights to have access to outside information.
However, the main opposition Democratic Party’s spokeswoman Kim Yoo-jung criticized the ruling party for having a loose stance on the issue. She said the GNP has urged civic groups to refrain from leaflet distribution in the past, but now some are seeking state aid in support of groups. [KBS Global]
