IRBIL, Iraq — Soldiers with South Korea’s Zaytun Unit, which has been stationed in the northern Iraqi city for just over four years, board the plane that will take them out of the country, on to Kuwait and back home on December 10.
South Korea began pulling troops out of Iraq on December 10; all troops will be withdrawn by the end of the year. [Hankyoreh]

Did this unit fire a shot in anger? Was it ever in a fire fight? I can’t remember one from the news, but it has been awhile.

They went to Iraq, in support of the US. They did nothing, and improved their compond as much as possible. They are now leaving to a more dangerous life back home. Thank you South Korea for your support.

Its about time they went home. I think Korean girl scouts would have been more appropriate for the mission that the Korean military accomplished. Maybe in the future when the Koreans need our assistance again, we will send the brownies.
This Korean adventure has been an embarrassment for the outstanding members of the Korean Forces.

They need to pack up their video games. With the years of practice, the Zaytun would be some of the best gamers in Asia.
