Soldiers from the US 2nd Infantry Division recently took some time this holiday season to ensure that a group of Korean orphans had a Christmas worth remembering:

I have always been skeptical about GI’s helping orphans after my first attempt to do so in Japan.

A bus was rented and a group of GI’s (myself included) went to help an orphanage. Many of the GI’s I were with drank all the way up, on the bus, and were very drunk upon arrival, then asked for more booze when they arrived. It was all a big party for them.

The Sisters of the Orphanage complained about the drunk GI’s. It was hushed up and no more trips were made.

Gerry I can tell you from my experiences in Korea at least, I have never seen servicemembers do such a thing. If anyone did others helping out would be outraged I’m sure.

Good to hear that. My experience was a huge embarrasment to me, and although I had other opportunities to visit orphanages after that affair, I never did because of it. It was in Japan in the late 60s.

I thought this was such a sweet clip! Im glad to see the US military helping the korean children. Little things like that make a huge difference in their lives. I was adopted from Korea when I was 3months old. They loaded up the plane with servicemembers coming back to the states and I was carried off the plane by a soldier! My adopted father was in the military and now my husband as well. It’s nice to see the support from the troops! Cute, cute, cute!!

I didn’t realize that there are still orphanages in Korea. Thanks for sharing your time, energy, and resources. God will certainly bless you for caring for the least of these.
