Well as if there was any doubt, Kim Hyun-hee is in fact a North Korean spy:
The biographer of the last surviving bomber of Korean Air flight 858 has dismissed recently resurfaced claims that the incident was in fact a plot by South Korean agencies. Noh Su-min, who wrote the book titled “I Now Want to Become a Woman,” says Kim Hyun-hee was “definitely” a North Korean agent. It was the first comment on the matter by Noh, who had been avoiding the press since the issue made fresh headlines amid allegations that the previous administration encouraged a revisionist conspiracy theory of the 1987 incident that would make the military government of the time look bad.
In a telephone interview with the Chosun Ilbo on Monday, Noh said, “I wanted to let the world know the real Kim that I’ve gotten to know after hearing that she has been going through intense pain due to a re-investigation on the bombing” under the last government.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, established in 2005, reopened the case after it was already closed by the Supreme Court and the National Intelligence Service, citing suspicions that the bombing was not in fact carried out by three North Korean agents, of whom Kim is the only survivor. [Chosun Ilbo]
Last month it was revealed how the prior Korean government revealed the whereabouts of Kim Hyun-hee which would make her an easy assassination target by the North Koreans. Of course the government used the MBC PD Diary program that was behind the false US mad cow scare in order to disclose her whereabouts. The Truth & Reconcilliation Commission are the ones behind the claim that she is not a North Korean spy and the bombing of KAL 858 was all a conspiracy by the prior military government. ROK Drop readers probably remember I have linked the T&R Committee to much poor and political historical revisionism, much like this claim about Kim Hyun-hee is.
As far as Kim Hyun-hee I recommend everyone read Kalani’s thoughtful comment about her.

I actually read the biography, which was quite interesting. The biggest thing I came away with was — NK spy training was really crappy. Upon interrogation, KHH could not even give the most basic information to keep her identity as a Japanese tourist. She gave the wrong name for the Japanese emperor and the prime minister; she pretended not to know what gim was when it was served for her meal, which is idiotic given the amount of nori eaten in Japan.
That made me think, at the time, maybe there was something to this conspiracy theory. The story just didn’t make sense — NK didn’t teach most basic things about Japan to its spies that were supposed to pose as Japanese? But at this point, I am convinced that NK spying apparatus is simply stupid.

Instead of KHH, I thought Rangoon Bombing was done by Chun who was trying to get rid of his Cabinet members. Which can be more believable than KHH was not DPRK spy.

Well I have read Tears of My Soul and found much of the information useful. Meaning, the training was as good as it could have possibley gotten but the information they had was completely incompitant. The NK gov. did not have sufficient and up to date information on Japan and Japanese culture. So if and when she was captured she was never going to have a chance to get out of it.
