USFK Marines Have First Sergeant Major

A new senior leader position has been added to the USFK rank structure:

Sgt. Maj. Michael Redmeyer salutes Marine Forces Korea commander Maj. Gen. Frank Panter on Thursday during a brief ceremony at Yongsan Garrison welcoming Redmeyer to the unit. Redmeyer is the first sergeant major the unit has had.

For the first time, Marine Forces Korea has a sergeant major.

The unit welcomed its top enlisted Marine, Sgt. Maj. Michael Redmeyer, during a brief ceremony Thursday at Yongsan Garrison.

“If you want to [see him] — and you have a problem, I expect — I encourage you to go in there and talk to the sergeant major,” Marine Forces Korea commander Maj. Gen. Frank Panter said as he introduced Redmeyer. “He’ll help you.”

Redmeyer comes here from the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center near Bridgeport, Calif.

Panter said having a sergeant major also gives the unit a voice among U.S. Forces Korea’s senior enlisted members.

“I have a guy who’s sitting at the table now, among the sergeants major and command master chiefs,” Panter said.

Redmeyer said small Marine units working as part of joint commands haven’t historically had sergeants major but that Corps leadership recently saw the need for change.

Redmeyer will be responsible for about 80 Marines within Marine Forces Korea but will be available for all Marines stationed on or visiting the peninsula.

Panter said that during major exercises and contingencies thousands of Marines may deploy to South Korea, and Redmeyer will be responsible for them too.  [Stars & Stripes]

SO this was the start of his giant power trip! Sweet well let’s all get one thing straight he needs a life!
From day one he beat a good man down, yet he continued to give 150% to the USMC 18+ years and this is what it has all come to? Really what a great job. All I can say is that 150% in the past is over. Sorry but there comes a time when you have given your all and family needs you. SO much more to this story which I will save for the great day I plan to meet this man in person and tell him face to face what he put our family through!

A SGM and $5.00 will get you a small coffee at Starbucks.

A CSM / SGM with nothing to do is a dangerous combination. Someone needs to “manage” him so that he always feels like he’s important and making a difference while actually contributing nothing to the unit (make sure he doesn’t know about the nothing part).

Let’s see– a “command” which is tucked away and hidden behind a wall at Gate 8, which has about a company’s worth of people around Korea and has no unit headquarters and they have a CSM?

Now THAT’S funny! Being a CSM for a bunch of field grade Os!

#1- DO tell your story in more detail…. Sounds like someone was mighty bored, and might have had a malicious streak.

In my humble opinion Command Sergeant’s Major & Sergeant’s Major are just a big waste. All I ever saw them do was walk around & drink coffee. They would give speeches on the NCO creed, say something about Sergeant’s time, or be on promotion or NCO of the month boards. To me they were a bunch of ROAD’s (Retired On Active Duty) just waiting for when they can hang it up. In my experience it was very rare for a CSM or a SGM to actually do anything FOR a soldier especially if he/she had to actually stick their neck out to help the soldier. I saw plenty of squad leaders & platoon sergeant’s & even some First Sergeant’s who would stick up for their soldiers. I guess that shows who gets promoted to CSM & SGM.

I think CSMs can make a difference at the battalion level – but beyond that – they are just a figure head.

Becoming a division or corps CSM has got to be a strange feeling…you’ve worked hard all your career to reach that pinnacle, and then you get there and realize that you could go missing for two months and no one would ever notice it except for your driver.

    He sucks,!
CSM Redmeyer has not changed. He is a worthless piece of shit! He has a track record for trying to kick blacks out of the service and ending careers of great marines. His nick name around is SM Ass! Because of his hatred for blacks and Hispanics and others. He will threaten people’s careers to type up false statements against innocent marines just to prove his power. He should be kicked out of service. He makes racial comments daily and get away with it.

Correction on my post– he was not a CSM- he was a SgtMaj. The Marine Corps doesn’t have “CSMs” or “SGMs” in their organization.

He’s no longer in Korea, last I heard. Wonder what happened…

Racial comments? In this day and age? Come on– he’d get set on FIRE if that happened. If you are serious, you need to file an EO complaint.
