AWOL Soldiers in Canada Face Deportation

It looks like guys like ROK Drop certified useful idiot Joshua Key may end up in a US jail after all:

Joshua Key

Liberal and New Democrat parliamentarians said Wednesday that U.S. war resisters would not be deported under a coalition government.

Five Americans could face deportation by the end of the month unless there’s a last-minute court reprieve or an unexpected policy change by the federal government.

Liberal Mario Silva and New Democrat Olivia Chow said their parties would protect war resisters if Stephen Harper’s government were to fall after next week’s budget.

Silva invoked the words of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, who during the Vietnam War said “Canada should be a refuge from militarism.”

“To all those brave men and women who have in fact objected to (the Iraq) war we say, bravo. We say welcome, you should be here in Canada,” Silva said at a news conference in Toronto, which was attended by several war resisters and their young families.

The House of Commons passed a motion June 3 calling for a stop to deportations of war resisters, and Silva urged the government to respect that vote.

One war resister, Robin Long, has been deported since the vote and was separated from his Canadian partner and infant son. He was sentenced to 15 months in a U.S. prison.

New Democrat Olivia Chow said Canada must stop deporting war resisters and breaking up families.

“We are a nation of compassion and of peace,” she said. “We really should not deport war resisters into American jails.”  [Army Times]

Joshua Key is the personification of a useless turd.

I can respect someone who truly doesn't want to fight because it's against their beliefs – even in cases where they had already enlisted and didn't come to that realization until later.

But this turd came on the news and told one lie after another. And they weren't just embellishments – they were flat out lies.

I hope he gets deported back to the US. So he can face the men and women of the US military whom he shamed.

who are the real useful idiots? The idiots who die for nothing in Iraq believing Bush, or the idiots who save themselves and who refuse to let themselves be used as pawns? Good on Canada.

#2: You completely (and certainly knowlingly) avoided my point.

If Key doesn't want to go to Iraq fine. But why does Key tell all those lies?

    Bad on Canada.

I'm Canadian and I feel no sympathy for deserters. They should be immediately deported. They are criminals.

Having spent five years in the CF may have slanted my opinion, but still…

I'm sure most who have served in their country's armed forces would agree with me.

Of course, there will be those who may have something negative to say. They can go breaktrack!

Remember, these are the same people who don't have the guts to even approach a recruiter.

Unfortunately, I bought Key's damn book to demolish him, and THEN googled "jushua key liar" and found your demolition of him. Which means I now have another book I don't want, only this time I bought it to do something you had already done, and probably better than I could.

Incidently, Michael Moore is touting an article about this asshat on his site. Crush one liar and 4 more pop up. Oh well, target rich environment.

He's smart enough to understand that he will get support from some who hate the US or its military enough to keep his charade going for as long as possible. He is a sociopath, and this is what sociopaths do.

I think he just has to keep the charade going to finance the large family he is trying to support up there in Canada and stay out of a US military jail which would end up being a huge financial hit on his family as well.

He has told his lies for so long now that he probably actually believes them by now.

I think that in a world that values money more than human life there is no reason for good men with courage and moral virtue have to fight and die for cowards that never helped and point the finger at young lads who joined the army to serve their country.

The world expects the strong and brave to die for fakes and liars! I´m awol from the British Army and i´m awol cause there´s nothing worth fighting for anymore, the stronger a man is in the Army the more the weaker lads hate him, sometimes even your commanding officers hate you for being better. we all know the army turns it´s back on the lads! Blatently disregard their individuality and rights, stab us in the back but expect us to feel guilty about it? Truth is shit goes down the ranks there´s no human rights for soldiers only the enemy! Anyone who´s served in the armed forces will tell you the only respect for being willing to sacrifice your life for your country is from the lads that are there with you! the whole idea of christianity complies with cowards i:e Jesus son of god ,just, compassionate, fought for the weak, protected poeople for no reason a good man has to die so cunts can make shit of their lives and just before they die ask for forgiveness and there you go problem solved! poor jesus! good and bad is just a point of view you want your gasoline so it´s ok to send your best men to kill or die for your greedy lifestyle. point the finger asskissers. its alright for you to do whatever you want but not a soldier! sounds really fair mate!

LOL, I think what he is saying is "in a world where every side is given moral equivalence, and the media works hard to denigrate what the military does to help people, he finds it confusing". I would too, in fact I did find it confusing being a Vietnam veteran.

Its hard to believe in something when at the same time people are spitting on you in the press in one way or another. Being in your 20's or 30's doesn't help either as the great prospective of time alive and history is not on your side.

It is only later in life that one can judge fairly what they have done. Did they fight the "just" and "moral" fight, or were they used as pawns in a global conflict that had little value or no relevence.

For those fighting in the "free world" for their country, history will usually show their actions in a positive light. Even if the cause was questionable, their ability and courage will hold up to scrutiny.

On the other hand "Sam" seems to have taken the road less traveled. Not always best of choices.
