My favorite North Korean activists are at it again:
South Korean civic groups on Monday resumed sending anti-North Korea leaflets to the North on the occasion of Kim Jong-il’s birthday.
The civic groups released balloons earlier in the day containing 20-thousand leaflets and 40 five-thousand-won-denominated North Korean bills at Imjingak Pavilion at the western border.
Choi Seong-yong, chairman of a group comprising family members of South Koreans abducted by North Korea, said the purpose of the leaflet campaign is not only to promote human rights conditions in North Korea but also to encourage Seoul to actively address the issue of South Korean prisoners of war and civilian abductees in the North.
The Unification Ministry in Seoul and the police have warned that if the North Korean money is disseminated, a probe into the illegal procurement of North Korean articles will be launched. [KBS Global]
I didn’t think the Lee Myung-bak government would do anything to stop these activists considering the public backlash they would probably receive. It is good to see these folks continuing to piss off the Kim regime.

My impression is that a lot of South Koreans – just regular folks – are a little uneasy with this leaflet dropping business. They think it's unwise to do something so provocative.
My personal opinion: they should keep up the good fight and if anything, they should double or triple their output.
Make KJI feel uncomfortable…force him into a corner and make him respond.
And switching from SK currency to NK currency – great idea!!

I don't get the impression that Korean society in general wants the protesters to stop their activities because I think many of them feel they would be doing the same thing if their family members were kidnapped by the regime.
Notice how the leftist groups won't mess with the leaflets groups any more. I suspect it is because of how discredited these groups have become in general Korean society.
These activists have launched one of the most effective anti-Kim regime campaigns in recent memory. Knowing how tenacious Koreans can be when they support a cause, I do not see these leaflet groups stopping their activities any time soon.
