Sea Shepherd Eco-loons Ship Raided

» by GI Korea in: Environment

Australian authorities have finally decided to crackdown on the eco-loon group Sea Shepherd and may even provide evidence to Japanese authorities to prosecute them:

Sea Shepherd thugs hurl objects to include acid at Japanese whalers.

AUSTRALIAN Federal Police have raided anti-whaling flagship the Steve Irwin, seizing records and videos that could help Japan to prosecute the activist Sea Shepherd group.

An armed squad seized 157 of Discovery Channel’s raw videos, and navigational records from the ship in Hobart. The videos show the Sea Shepherd’s clashes with Japanese whalers and may be given to the Japanese Government. A federal agent said yesterday’s raid resulted from a formal referral from Japanese authorities and that police were undertaking preliminary inquiries into this summer’s Southern Ocean confrontation.  [The Age]

Sea Shepherd has been at this “whale game” for 31 years.

Think about that the next time you get angry at Japan and whaling.

It took less time to put a man on the moon. Clearly Sea Shepherds 1970’s “violence at sea act” is next to useless. They know it. The only thing it is good for is soaking up well meaning eco dollars so they can go be absolutely not effective for one more season. Next year, at a cost of 2.1 million, will be year 32.

How many more seasons will you continue to throw money at an eco org who fails to effect real and lasting change? Name your animal, SS has failed to stop seal killing, sharks, turtles, and yet they demand respect, give us your money so we can save the animals!

31 years. Surely there has to be another game plan. What did not work in 1970’s still does not work today. If Paul Watson was not playing this next to useless save-the-whales gig – he would be one of those creepy guys with the 70’s shirt collars and gold chains swinging his corpulent hips to ABBA’s “Take a Chance on Me.”

Demand real and lasting change, not faked news clips and massaged media from an eco org that is literally sucking the air out of an entire movement.

Obviously you are a Sea Shepherd fan since you have to resort to lies to make your point:

hola he visto el programa por tv.cable.y es tremendo ver la matanza de las ballenas en las manos de la flota japonesa.mi opinion es que no se desmotiven por proteger a estos seres vivos que no tienen como defenderse de estas bestias humanas .lo que Dios ha creado no debe ser destruido por el hombre que Dios les bendiga y los proteja de estos asesinos sin amor por el mundo que nos rodea

Seems like “Whales Not Television Ratings” is wrong after all. After much work not just at sea but in the public, Sea Sheppard will be effectivly shutting down the seal hunt. Through there diligent work with people and governments around the globe most markets for seal fur are gone. The only way for the barbaric industry to continue will be with massive taxpayer subsidies. Hopefully the Canadian government will finally see that it is no longer money well spent. The only way to effect change is to never give up. If the Sea Sheppard can continue to cut the profits from illegal whaling then eventually it will no longer be a viable industry and the money will dry up. Go Sea Sheppards!

    I don’t understand.

If whales and seals aren’t supposed to be eaten, why are they made of meat?

WTF??? How could you think the sea shepherds are thugs, criminals, evil? They just try to keep this from happening:

That seal was used for “research” and the sea shepherds are trying to keep that from happening anymore!! You may still think they are thugs, criminals, evil; but thats just because you dont care! If you cared and saw what “researchers” did to the animals you would care, you’d also care if it was a friend, or a loved one. To the sea shepherds these animals ARE friends and loved ones.

    Woofdog60,

    You see inhuman cruelty…

…I see something that requires sauce and 40 minutes of low flame.

You should see what a killer whale or a polar bear does to a seal. Better ready the .50 cals and the depth charges to protect the seals.

Once again, I encourage all of our environmentalist friends to take their cause seriously and show the world the are serious. Decrease your carbon foot print to 0 (zero). If you cannot figure out how to do it, I will offer suggestions. Then, and only then, can you be considered a true lover of nature.

hey ChickenHead does what your saying make alright to kill people and eat them? and poler bears and whales kill them natrually. if you wan’t to hunt seals butt naked with your hands,or with a spear you trow from a hand made rowboat? fine. you want to hunt them with net elctronic trackers and all sorts of tecnollagy? thats were it gets unfair. and GI Korea i have not lied once, evrey thing i said is fact. the sea sheperd ship, “farley mowat” was illegally seized by canadian police in international waters. jap whalers throw grenades at sea sheaperd and shot paul watson, who was saved by his bullet proff vest, and a badge he wore(a badge can stop a bullet, mythbusters proved it on there tv show as have several others.)

    Superdude,

“hey ChickenHead does what your saying make alright to kill people and eat them?”

Of course. I agree with you 100%! Modern culture and all sorts of unfair elctronic tecnollagy have upset the balance of nature in terms of people versus animals as well as people versus people.

Other than places like New Guinea, factory farming has replaced the natural way of butt naked hunters hunting other butt naked hunters with spears. Apart from producing less-healthy meat than a range-fed native, the resulting overpopulation is destroying our environment, depleting our wildlife and warming our planet.

With proper laws and a large and well-funded governmental agency for inspection and enforcement, a fair system can be enacted which will more closely resemble man’s natural relationship with his environment and himself. And, with luck, they might enact a world-wide ban on all these so-called “smart” weapons which make the hunt very unfair.

Also, I’m glad to see someone else recognizes the abusive actions of government which go against nature… be they seizing Sea Shepard ships trying to make a difference… or arresting guys like Jeffery Dahmer for a little bit of harmless elctronic tecnollagy-unassisted cannibalism.

    Keep up the fight, brother.

This is a stupidly biased article. What is an Eco-Loon? Sea Shepherd ‘Thugs’? The Aust government is simply supporting the whalers by allowing them to fuel up in our ports and seizing film footage. We know they continue whaling so why seek to confiscate film footage of actions they condone and actively engage in? It seems to me the Japanese will continue whaling for profit despite the public outcry in some countries to end it. Perhaps they had something to hide, like a blue whale killing..? This article says more about the Aust authorities than the Sea Shepherds actions.
