Via the Marmot’s Hole comes news of an attack that killed four Koreans in Yemen:
Four South Korean tourists visiting Yemen have been killed by an explosion while posing for photographs near the historic fortified city of Shibam.
Two Yemenis accompanying the party to a hill overlooking the UN World Heritage site were also killed. At least three other people were injured.
The cause of the blast is unclear although Yemen has been seen as a haven for Islamist militants.
Militants are known to have a presence in the surrounding province, Hadramaut.
The website of Yemen’s governing party described the blast as a terrorist attack. [BBC]
According to the AP there was other foreigners and Yemenis injured in the attack, which leads me to believe that this wasn’t just an attack directed to kill South Koreans. The Koreans part of a foreign tour group when they were attacked and it just happened that only the four Koreans were killed.
What is most scary about this incident that according to the Yemen Online it appears that an IED was used that blew up the vehicle that the four Koreans and their guide were in.
Sad incident.
