Japanese Law Professor Sentenced in Australia

A Japanese law professor is in hot water Down Under:

Southern Cross University thought Megumi Ogawa had just the talents to be an associate lecturer in its School of Law and Justice.  Yesterday she demonstrated some of her skills in a courtroom:

A JAPANESE law lecturer who bared her bottom to a judge and had to be removed from her own trial for incessant screaming has been jailed for contempt….Judge Durward charged Ogawa with contempt just moments after a jury found her guilty of two counts of each of using a carriage service to harass and using a carriage service to threaten to kill Australian Federal Court officials in 2006… Ogawa had to be carried into the dock by three corrective services officers who had to hold her down as she was sentenced. [Andrew Bolt]

Maybe the judge should have given her a spanking during sentencing as well?

"using a carriage service to harass and using a carriage service to threaten to kill Australian Federal Court official"

I knew Australia was a little bit backwards but I thought they at least had cars.

How the heck do you harass someone with a carriage service? Hire them to go back and forth in front of their house all night? Clop, clop, clop? Horseshoes on cobblestones. That would be pretty bugging, actually.

"Ogawa had to be carried into the dock by three corrective services officers who had to hold her down as she was sentenced."

Wow. Finish that off with a little bukakki and Australian Court TV will be a big hit in Japan… with her blurred-out bottom, of course.

One would think that earning a PhD in law would give a better understanding of what techniques are, and are not, successful in dealing with the court.

I'm going to guess she is crazy as a bedbug.

Her behaviour included screaming loudly, claiming she was about to soil herself, exposing her buttocks while being dragged into court while handcuffed and demanding potential jurors help her because "white Australians (were) trying to kill'' her.

Prosecutor David Kent told the jury she threatened to kill two court officers during a phone conversation with the associate of the Chief Justice of the Federal Court.

The threats were made by Ogawa in 83 emails and 146 phone calls between April 12 and May 19, 2006.

I did some google news looking, and this is an interesting case.

Oh. Carriage service seems to be a term for phone and internet service…

    USinKorea…

…you… uh… didn't really think that I believed she used a service that rented horses and carriages to harass and threaten others, did you?

"screaming loudly, claiming she was about to soil herself, exposing her buttocks while being dragged into court while handcuffed"

This has all the makings of Japanese pr0n! If only they could find some way to introduce a big octopus as evidence.

And I like the subtle nod to the German shizer genre.

    …talk about life imitating art.

No. I just had no idea what carriage service meant — taking it for granted it had nothing to do with horse and buggy – but thought other people would be confused too…

I didn't bring the link, but if you google news it — it seems some NZ "human rights" group is up in arms about the persecution of this woman…
