Kim Yu-na Wins Korea’s First World Skating Championship

Kim Yu-na continues to impress:

Kim Yu-na has won Korea’s first figure skating world title in record fashion.

In the World Figure Skating Championships Saturday evening in Los
Angeles, Kim dominated the ladies’ competition with a record overall
score of 207.71, 16.42 points ahead of runner-up Joannie Rochette of
Canada.

“Being the world champion was my dream and I did it here,” the Associated Press quoted Kim as saying. “So it’s just amazing.”

In doing so, Kim became the first female competitor ever to break the
200-point barrier on Saturday, and more than made up for her
third-place finishes at the World Championships over the previous two
years.

Miki Ando of Japan finished third with a score of 190.38, with last
year’s champion and Kim’s chief rival Mao Asada of Japan finishing
fourth at 188.09.  KBS Global
